Interesting thing i find about Bryan Hawk is that his fight with Takamura is a lot like Naseem's fight against Antonio Barrera as their opponents had the people of their respected nation on their backs while expressing fundamentals and killing intent in their punches. Also them having such huge egos that their first ever loss destroyed them.

I started the manga after I finished the anime and I distinctly remember Tyson and Dempsey mentioned by name in the anime. The whole walking out with the towel instead of a robe was said to be taken from Tyson in the anime.

Some bonus fun facts:
Another nickname for ippo apart from the "Wind God" is "Kid Dynamite" which is another nickname for Mike Tyson.

Apart from tyson the way ippo uses his gazelle hook is also similar to how floyd patterson used it, the predecessor of Iron mike hinself.

In real life Mike Tyson and Donnovan "Razor" Ruddock did fight! Just like in the anime however Iron mike wins but in regards to Donnovan's smash he says " He hits like a Fucking horse"

Ricardo Martinez's signature ghost jab is also based off on real-life boxing technique of Ricardo Lopez also dubbed the ghost jab, the modern martial artist has a great video breaking it down.
