When I was younger, people constantly told me to "stop staring" when I knew that I wasn't so I started actively avoiding looking at people and over time I progressively looked at people less and less and now I pretty much never look at people in the eyes anymore. It's not intentional anymore, I just feel way more comfortable not looking at people.

I feel personally attacked. Eye contact is hard. How long do I hold it for? Where do I look after breaking it? How long should I look away? Quickly glance back to check... Oh no they're still looking over there I was too early! Now I don't know what they're saying because I'm too busy panicking about eye contact!

Personally I find it pretty hard to look people in the eyes, I just don’t know where to rest them. I feel like if I look at them directly in the eyes, they might feel super pressured to listen well, or to give an amazing dialogue.

I have ADHD and maybe ASD (I'm getting the results for my testing back within like a week) and eye contact is hard for me. It just feels uncomfortable to look into peoples eyes so looking at something in the background or something else on that person. It may seem weird for some people at first but I guess all I ask is that people try to accept that some may have issues looking at people's eyes. It's nothing personal, it's just a matter of feeling comfortable in the moment.

I always attributed my... "lack of eye contact" to ADHD. I can't stand eye contact. It has always made me incredibly uncomfortable.

At the same time... it bugs me if someone isnt looking at me when they're talking to me. ADHD. Gotta love it
