I had a neighbor, a guy who used to read louder his study materials and watching WWE simultaneously. His voice was louder than the sound of the TV. You know what, he was always the topper in his class!! I figured it out myself that reading louder is the best way for maximum retention. It might be tiring and stressful, but still its the best.

Thank you, I don't feel confident reading aloud thinking my landlord will hear and stuff. But slowly I'll implement it.

I like to read out loud and record it. This gives me a lecture to listen to when i'm commuting and knowing i will listen to it forces me to record it well. It gets me in the right mood to study by recording a few pages at a time and not stopping until I reach a natural stopping point and even then i often keep going even if i want to stop. It is like a pomodoro but i actually want to get to the end of the paragraph before stopping so i can pick it back up again later without issues.

I'm much tired of loud reading.. I am a bachelor student.. I find difficulty in my hostel..
Please help me because I fear that if I memorize silently, I'll not remember all the things. Secondly, it takes a lot of time to memorize silently because I come across many other thoughts during silent reading... By loud reading, I get tired quickly. My roommates also say that you should speak slowly.. 😢😢😢😢😢😢

I knew a consultant surgeon who would prepare for his license exams by reading his notes aloud. He used to score above 80% in his exams.

Yes, it definitely makes a difference, if I'm reading out loud I do not comprehend anything of what I'm reading (presumably because I'm too busy translating from text to sound rather than from text to meaning); when I read in silence I read 3-4 times faster than I'm able to speak and I get the meaning of the text. When I read for comprehension I do not translate into sound at all, I just see the words and get the meaning. The only exception is when I read fiction and there are spoken lines written in a non standard way to indicate slurred speech or a different dialect or something, in which case I'm forced to enable my internal voice actor and sound it out in my head and listen to what it sounds like... And I often have to do that several times before I can understand what I'm saying in my mind; it's as if I have to bypass the normal text-to-meaning circuitry in my mind and use the text-to-sound part of my brain which is sloooow and then I have to listen to myself and pass it through my terrible sound-to-meaning circutry which and hope that I understand it. But I really hate when that happens because when I've started "voice acting" the lines reading speed slows to a crawl and I struggle to understand what I read; so I often have to read the same things over and over until the voice acting stops so I can understand it again.

Finally, this is new original content!! I'm always seeing flashcard stuff on youtube....I just don't have time for that...Plus I've already made notes for some parts...This is a better way of studying, especially when I know I'm not daydreaming but actually studying...My only problem is that I'm a slow communicator with speech because I haven't practiced this form yet...It makes me wonder why I didn't realize this before especially because when I was a kid, I used to learn the alphabets, and multiplication tables and it used to stick with us only by repeating aloud so many times!

Reading with students while they follow along is a tried-and-true method, and I have seen it personally work.

urgh. Reading aloud has improved my pronunciation and i easily comprehend what i am reading. but i have not developed any writing skill and have no creative abilities. Whereas my friends who do silent reading have a strong grasp on vocabulary and their creative writing skills are far better than mine. But i have a problem with silent reading. I can't sit still. and it distracts me alot. Like i dont know when i finish a paragraph and doesn't understand it. Whicj reading approach should i follow then ? I have been reading aloud since ny childhood but no vocabulary no writing skill has been improved since then.. but silent reading also doesn't work for me

If this is true, then this would actually disprove the L-R Method.

I read out loud for 3 days consecutively for 12-10 hr each day and now i feel shortness of breath, chest pain . I can't sustain it, maybe it's my acidity i don't know i need to learn to read silently

When ever I read aloud, I dont understand what I'm trying to learn. It is good only to learn something by heart, not for understand

I enjoy reading aloud and do feel at a loss when I am not. Damn these noisier spaces! 😤😅
