Sometimes I think about what could have been. I mean, if you wanna add some Inquisition to your Imperial forces then this is the book for you. But what could have been...

I really hope this book pushes a lot of people to completely ignore GW’s rulings. It’s a table top game, as long as you’re playing with friends and not competitively, who cares, have fun. As long as your friends are all on the same page, make up your own detachments and experiment, ignore bad points changes, ally whatever you want in, simply don’t comply to these rules lawyers who are catering exclusively to the competitive crowd… or just play a different system that isn’t getting kneecapped any time GW opens their mouth.

This is supposed to be the super secret surprise codex that GW have been promising for almost a year. It's like you wake up on christmas morning, go downstairs, then get driven to the dentist.

It doesnt have scions or sisters of silence like that inquisition kill team box had such an odd choice to leave them out.
But this codex seems like a codex meant to get kill team collectors into 40k at 1000 point games.

As a Deathwatch player, I was dreading this codex. I'm going to stop playing my army and just play as Space Marines. I still have some hope that this madness will be fixed in the future, but in the meantime, they are just black and silver Space Marines. Fuck GW for this bullshit.

I love the idea of the book, but they've done deathwatch very dirty. The issue with sticking them in a space marine codex detachment is that they don't have the adeptus astartes keyword, so they won't get benefit of oath of moment, or the detachment rules! Really appreciate the totally not rant :)

And HH continues to look more appealing than 10th. Bit of a shame

Don't rant? But that's why I'm here. I needed you to tell me just how concerned I should be.

The 7th edition Imperial Agents codex was amazing. Sad to see its successor fall flat.

Not sure if winters noticed but the rhinos can carry everything but terminators. Meaning you can put chimeras and immolators in your rhinos.

The problem is that when GW design a Codex, they don't think about narrative and collection. They think about tournaments and matched play, which is a mistake.

It surprised me GW brought this codex out so early given there are still alot of codexs unreleased. Imperial Agents would have been better received towards the end of the codex releases.

Only GW could take the codex designed for the obscure, whacky narrative models and rules, and then remove all the obscure whacky models and rules... leaving another milquetoast middle of the road ruleset that nobody wants.

Tournament players aren't gonna touch this one because it's objectively crap, and now narrative players aren't gonna touch this one because it's had all the fun ironed out of it.

My absolute hopium is that one day we get a heresy style pre-primaris ruleset for 40k that includes all the firstborn and classic models that we've lost over the last few years (and before someone says it, yes that is just 7th edition, but there have been many rules from the later editions that have been a genuine improvement).

I have stopped playing 40k altogether because of this edition, and my armies haven't even been done as dirty as this. On the plus side, I've discovered the joy of Horus Heresy, but on the downside, I do miss the 40k style. It's a shame that GW seems to have decided to kill so much of the narrative fun and uniqueness of so many of the armies. Regardless, thank you winters, keep up the great work!!

Who is it for? It certainly isn't for the people who had Inquisitorial Storm Trooper armies. Adding Scions, Taurox, and Valkyries would add a fair deal of flavor here.

Considering how Scions operate they're a better fit for this codex than in the Guard one, IMHO.

I thought this army might be for me 😆 I have my old Daemonhunters codex still, which is why I purchased Grey Knights aeons ago. It looks like I will be making an army how I want and completely ignoring this book.

In theory the lack of Requisition units is an easy fix, just by adding a 'Requisition' keyword to a few more units from the Sisters and Grey Knights. But its GW, and they hate a sensible, easy fix

Ive had a quick flick through. Looks great for taking my kill team orange boxes into 40k and making my imperial armies more interesting. As a force on its own I can see where some buffs and nwrfs are needed. I think this will be a popular codex as it has absolutely fantastic minis in its ranks that are easy to get hold of mostly.

It is a sub-par product, typical of the lack of playtesting that GW does(n't) do themselves. Why was this even produced? Just to blend the disparate kits they produced for kill-team? The only game mode this book will have any success is boarding actions. I have been a filthy casual for 35 years and I know I am not the target audience. But at some point they must shift their attention, or at least differentiate the casual gamers from the competitive ones.

Also thanks for making a case for Deathwatch players and a reasonable suggestions as to how GW could fix it.
