When Shrewd Negotiation Goes Wrong

Ed Bolian has made a lot of money flipping cars but his buying strategies leave some vulnerability to fraud from sellers misrepresenting cars. That is exactly what happened when he bought his wife a Range Rover from a car dealership in Birmingham, Alabama last year.

“He wanted 22k, I offered 19k. He’s a shrewd negotiator so I ended up getting it for 19k.” 😂😂😂

I liked your nod to DeMuro about his carmax warranty for his rover

I would definitely buy a car from this dude. Even when he's telling a story about him getting ripped off, he still seems positive and upbeat! Everyone needs he's attitude towards life.

NO WAY. I bought a used LR3 with 110k miles with no warranty as if from this guy two years ago. I live in Hoover Alabama. The car went into limp mode about a week into owning the car and needed a new power steering pump, new radiator, new suspension, ended up costing me more than he sold me the car for. Never tried to contact him about it, seemed like a lost cause. I can’t believe he literally did the same thing to you, small world when it comes to getting screwed by this guy. Sold the car on Craigslist list for 5 grand when it was all over.

If you report this dealership to the State of Alabama, he could likely lose his dealership license for this type of fraud, and the State may choose to prosecute the issue.

My personal buying strategy is to AVOID smaller, independent car dealers at all cost. They always have cheesy names - like Wheels of Fortune - and from my experience are SHADY. Great video.

Realistically, something like this video is wayyyy more effective at causing pain than a lawsuit. All you have to do is cost them one sale that would net equivalent profit and everything after that is just icing on the cake.

By tomorrow their name will be wheels of Fortune 3.0

Anyone defrauded by Derek Barnes should:
1.) File an initial police report with your local PD. If they tell you it's out of their jurisdiction, tell them you want a non-criminal incident report or "police info" report. Even if you are out-of-state, the report will get his name and information into the NCIC, which can be important for the filing of warrants and liens.
2.) Contact the Alabama State Attorney general.
3.) File a complaint with the CFPB.
4.) File a complaint with IC3 (FBIs Internet Crime Complaint Center).
5.) If a credit card was involved, do a Chargeback for the full amount.

Something about this guy's voice, mannerisms, and intonation - I could listen to him describe paint drying.

Unfortunately, this ended up being a bad Barnes find story.

Derek Barnes was not the sharpest tool in the shed messing with someone with a huge following. In only a few hours he is now the proud owner of a 1 star business.
