Hey guys what’s happening? Niyat here with film comics explained. As requested, today we’ll be exploring Baron Vladimir Harko-nen and his Great House, as featured in Frank Herberts expansive Dune universe.

Siridar-Baron Vladimir Harko-nen, commonly known as the Baron, was the penultimate ruler of House Harko-nen , and the chief architect in the demise of Duke Leto I of House Atreides.

He was the scion of a family and house with a history of ruthless ambition and basically the main antagonist of Herbert’s Dune saga. As the Baron of House Harko-nen, he ruled from his ancestral homeworld of Giedi Prime, exercising a tyrannical rule of exploitation and sadism over the lives of the slaves unfortunate enough to end up in the service of his House.

A long-standing rival of House Atreides, the Baron is determined to bring about their end, with particular emphasis on seeing Duke Leto Atreides humiliated in defeat.

His House was by far the most famous for their underhanded and sinister political tactics, gaining power by diplomatic intrigue and assassinations.
Known for an ancient feud it maintained with Atreides of Caladan since the Battle of Corrin, the house had a reputation for ambition, malevolence, hatred and brutality.

In this video, we are going to explore the origins of House Harko-nen, the life of Baron Vladimir and the demise of the powerful faction throughout the expansive dune universe.

Hey there folks!! My name is Niyat and this channel was created to assist in answering all your questions about Films, Comics, Games and Popular culture in a fun and engaging way!

As someone who discovered Dune through the new movie, all I wanted was more Baron screen time. Whether he was in the Anti-toxic pool or when he hovers (floats?) in air, absolutely menacing.

When I read the prequel book house Harkonnen, it was ironic how the only time a harkonnen showed empathy they were punished with exile and humiliation.

It is a bitter irony that the Harkonnen/Atriedes fued began with an act of mercy on the part of Abelard Harkonnen.

Even though Baron Harkonnon was eventually defeated his bloodline continues through his mortal enemies- House Atredies. Lady Jessica was his daughter and Paul Atredies his grandson, how ironic.

Orson Welles was originally going to play Vladimir Harkonnen in Jodorowsky's DUNE, there is even concept art of Welles wearing some Indian/Sri Lankan attire with jewels and diamonds covering every part of his body. He even resembles a Buddha statue.

I really liked the Harkonnens in the Dune prequels and it's quite tragic and sad development when comparing the noble and honorable natures of the prequel era Harkonnens with the brutal sadism of the later Harkonnens.

Jessica wasn't leto's wife, they never married because of political reasons but they did love each other deeply

As an avid dune reader for more than 15years, always reading and buying each book that came out, I think my collection is at a dozen but I have read over 20 books related to dune, I love seeing the renewed interest in this series and getting the opportunity to fact check what I understand of this universe with what others understood and took from it. These books were everything to me growing up.

These breakdowns on different aspects of dune lore are so amazingly awesome. I can finally talk to my dad about it and not just say "ahh that sounds cool". I'm now reading the books as well.

You should remove the word "unsuspecting" in front of "Atreides" in your telling of the Baron's ambush on the family. They knew it was a trap they were walking into. They just couldn't outwit it. Great recounting though of the overall story of the Baron.

Dude what the actual fuck. Literally finished rewatching Dune like 20 min ago, this is way too strange to be a coincidence. I think I've been hitting the spice too hard.

As much as I appreciate the incredibly well-done breakdown in this video, I simply can't absorb it all due to information overload lol. Might as well start reading the books now before the part 2 comes out. Great video once again, Niyat!

I'd love to see The Butlerian Jihad made into a series. Plenty of action from humans turned Cymex to Omnius and Erasmus. They'd be great story lines.

Another outstanding video i always loved the original 80's version of Dune but this version is awesome too!

I have never understood the plan to destroy House Atreides. Why would the Emperor and Baron Harkonen give over control of the universe's most valuable resource to their enemy? Why couldn't they destroy Leto on his own homeworld?

I was waiting to see footage of Feyd from the 80s version as portrayed by Sting 😆. Another great video. You're the Mentat of YouTube.
