------------------------

Most people who begin amlodipine will see their blood pressure go down (and stay down) within about 1 week. Amlodipine takes 6-12 hours to reach its greatest effect.

I've been taking it for Hypertension for over a Year. After trying other medications and having poor outcomes, my physician finally found what works. I was having episodes of 250/150 and making often visits to the ER. On a good Day, I was content to get my Systolic below 160, now, I have had few problems and my BP is hovering around 110/60.

I tried Amlodipine for several years as part of a three drug combination tablet. My ankles and feet became hugely swollen after a couple of months and all my doctor did was give me another fluid tablet that didn't make any difference.
After having trouble getting my shoes on one day, I had had enough. Going online and reading up on Amlodipine I quickly found that it can cause swelling of the feet and ankles. I asked the GP to write a prescription for the same combination pill without the Amlodipine. This had the same two other drugs included. Within a week the swelling was totally gone and my blood pressure numbers didn't change. So in other words, the Amlodipine was doing nothing for me but create significant swelling.
