Entering the Color E-Ink Tablet Arena: PocketBook InkPad Eo REVIEW

As you might know, I’m a fan of Pocketbook ereaders, because they are versatile, easy to use and privacy friendy and because of that, I was pretty excited when Pocketbook announced a Color E-Ink tablet with Android.

The Pocketbook InkPad Eo is the company’s first fully dedicated Color E-Ink tablet with a 10.3 inch E-Ink Kaleido 3 display, very good specs and an asymmetrical design for easier handling.

thx for review. When you read the comic, it looks like it does not show the whole page, and you have to press "next page" twice ? Is it possible to adjust the comic to the screen size so that you only turn the page once ?

Hey Chalid, I'm in the market for an e-ink device and am trying to find one that checks all these boxes. Thoughts on which might be the best option? 1) I want to use it to take notes at work so I need it to convert my handwriting to text and/or be able to search my handwritten notes easily, 2) I want to be able to read Kindle books on it, 3) you've mentioned security concerns on Boox so I'm trying to resist getting one of those as I'm sensitive to that as well, 4) I don't want to use a front light normally (so some of the color options are probably out) since I like long battery life but I want the option for a front light as sometimes I read at night in a low lit room. What do you think?

I'd like to know which ones of these ereaders support inverse screen. Like a dark theme, or white text on black background. I tossed my Kindle simply because I could not turn it down enough at night, nor use a dark (inverse color) reading mode.

The Eo I tested had a terrible battery lifetime of less than 3.5 uninterrupted hours of use. This time is quite similar to the HANNSNOTE 2 which has a much better screen resolution and refresh rate, but is not really usable indoors. Additionally, the Eo does not come with any kind of device lock. So do not lose your Eo with sensible data like emails.

Hi, do you think they will make this with a smaller screen? I am really impressed with the Boox 7 go colour but the fact it doesnt have a stylus is bugging me (I'd like to be able to annotate by hand). Thank you!

Man looking at these coloured displays I kind of regret getting a black and white onyx boox. I used to mainly use it for note taking and it was great for that but I also wanted to read with it. Most of the time I read medical textbooks and they contain a lot of pictures and figures that on a black and white screen are useless and I end up looking at my pc screen or phone to see them and slowly I stop reading from the tablet. One huge drawback is the battery life on these colored ones though. Less than a 10h battery life seems pretty bad and defeats one of the biggest pro's of e ink displays. Still I kind of have the hope that they'll get better soon. If one lasts 3-5 days I'd switch my old one in a heartbeat

I use Boox tab ultra c pro and I find working with pdf extremely complex and counterintuitive. Sometimes I manage to open split screen, sometimes simply can’t see that option. Do you find this pocketbook easy to use while working with pdfs? Is there an option to split screen and make one part of the screen to translate another part for example? That’s what boox can do.

Until today, all color eBooks have Kaleido3 screens. When will one with color electronic ink technology be released for sale? Some rumors say that Amazon will sell one, but won't anyone else sell one with better technology than Kaleido3?

I just red that Hannspree showed two new RLCD e-note&e-reader at IFA2024. Obviously, they heard the HANNSNOTE 2 critics because these 2 (10.3" and 7.8") new RLCD devices will have a frontlight, Android 14, a 4000 (3000) mAh battery, a 5 MP front camera, 4 (3) GB RAM and 128 (64) GB ROM. They announced a release between late 2024 and early 2025. These innovative tech entries will fat-caliber shoot the e-Ink devices. So, it would be interesting to see where the Eo will be in a year or so...
