To be fair, not all reapers are toxic. Actually was fishing solo at a sea post earlier today and this brig reaper snuck up on me, but didnt sink me and just passed on through with some nice chatter exchanged. Really friendly people. It is nice to see that not every reaper is out there to sink you all the time.

You forgot the “ashen phase”
It happens right before PL and after crab.

I think u forgot the stage were u have done pretty much a lot of stuff from the game and u are just enjoying sailing, meeting other pirates, getting drunk generally not caring about loot that much. That's the best stage.

Edit: thx for the likes and all the replies! 😁

Me and one of my friends started playing SOT a few month ago, and we both immediately bought the crab and kraken set, so seeing this video was certainly shocking...

There are a million different types of SoT players but my favorite are the Hunter's Call pirates. They are always so friendly and will let you sail past them as long as you give them fish. The most calm pirates I've ever met were Hunter's Call and I guess that makes some sense since it's one of the longest things in the game for you to complete.

Me and my friends skipped toxic and went straight to goofy reapers and did things that confuses everyone. One time we met up with other reapers and made an alliance, chased this one guy to stop his boat and repair all the damage we did to his ship to get him to stop and started playing music while one of us snuck in with a storage crate and stole all his supplies and jumped off without even touching his treasures.

This was wayyyy too accurate, lol. Biggest smile when Kraken phase came up, and tbh, that phase was the most fun. Currently at the Reaper phase. Not toxic, just wanting to switch from PvE to PvP. Very good video

I actually managed to avoid the crab or kraken lord phase, I gravitated more to the Sea Dog sets cause they looked more pirate-y.

The only one of these stages that ever described me was the beginner stage. I never went kraken, I always remained vigilant, and I'm not toxic.

I think what keeps people playing, well beyond a few hundred hours is the PvP. Having the chance to engage in a server wide skirmish is quite thrilling, and the experience can't be replicated in any other title.

I'm more in the middle between Toxic Reaper and Expert Pirate. I'm usually never toxic, but I'm always out for treasure, and can sink people in stage 4 and below. It's just I can never for the life of me sink an Expert Pirate.

The 1st thing I learned in SoT was damage control, and after sinking my first skelly ships, I became really good at it. Eventually I find myself in a battle I can't win(solo) . But I noticed I had 6 full wood crates. So I got an idea. I tried to make them run out of cannonballs. The battle lasted for 55 minutes. My strategy had almost worked. They had spent 300 cannonballs. They had 60 left. My ship sank only after being hit by a ballastball and after I had died, meaning I could not repair for a few seconds

Pretty accurate, though my second stage was Parrot, followed by HOW DARE YOU SINK IM FRIENDLY whilst running, then eventually accepting that PvP is a part of the game, and then just playing and even engaging in fights of my own. I’m not good yet but I’m practicing, and I try not to get angry at the enemy or say mean gamer words

The funny thing is that when me and my friend joined an open crew galleon there was a very new play ( dropping anchor, getting drunk and cooking a banana) once we killed two skeleton sloops and one ashen winds we made about 80k. Once me and my friend where about to hop off we saw him coming out the clothing store with all ocean crawler clothes.😂😂😂

A lot of people I knew in the Kraken or Crab Lord phase also gravitated towards Parrot cosmetics.

I always use Nightshine Parrot, after going barebones for a long time I finally decided to get an outfit, got Nighshine Parrot, and never looked back. Don't plan on ever changing it lol
Also you forgot the "finally got a pet and became absolutely obsessed with it for exactly 1 day" stage. I met somebody during that stage one time, he was absolutely ecstatic that he finally got a monkey and showed it to literally everyone. I also went through that stage not to long ago when I finally got a cat

I just love how the expert pirate has blurbs as representative. I’d say the perfect pick. Can take a loss, extremely good, not toxic, so he won’t attack noobs for no reason, but not pacifist either. The guy doesn’t care much about loot and is actually playing for fun, which is the main thing you need to actually enjoy SoT at its best.

My phases were a blurry mess
My first set of gear was grand admiral, and my first outfit was the Repaer's costume, after my old crew and I stumbled across a Reaper's Chest on our first day of playing
We turned it in (after me mistaking the Sea Dog Tavern for the Reaper's Hideout at first), and I was pulled in by the allure of being able to turn in all the loot at one spot, and later, a boost to all of it with the emissary flag
After that, I devoted myself to leveling up the Reapers, and after my old crew left in their phase 2, I was spurred by the anger of having to do it all by myself, leaving me in an eventual amalgamation of stage 3 and 4. After reaching PL, I once again devoted myself to finishing what I started with the Reapers. Today, Im still doing that, but simultaneously making myself better with on demand pvp
Seeing myself grow in pvp is something Im truly proud of, and my #1 goal is to have my old crew come back, but only once Ive gotten myself the Skeleton Curse

I'm currently about 90% of the way to pirate legend, but I will never get bored of this game.
The sole reason why is because me and my friends always take the most enjoyable way to the loot.
Recently we saw a sloop doing a fort of fortune (there were three of us) but rather than fight them head on we stopped by a local fort to pick up some kegs and tucked until we had the prime moment to blow them to smithereens. They took about 4 kegs before I decided to use a cannon on the fort to finish them. We completed the fort, and ran, laughing all the way. They followed us, but we assumed they rage quit as their ship just stopped moving later into the chase, which made the victory a little more sour, but we were still dying from laughter so it didn't matter.

That was a good haul :)
