The language that Chinese President Xi Jinping used to scold Prime Minister Justin Trudeau at the G20 summit in Indonesia was surprising, says Charles Burton, senior fellow with the Macdonald-Laurier Institute and a former diplomat to China. 'He certainly wouldn't speak like that to the U.S. president,' he said.

Trudeau probably not only leaked, but also exaggerated

What really got Xi upset was Trudeau made things up about the brief private conversation he had with Xi the previous day. He added a lot of things that were not said/mentioned during the conversation. It was only 10 minutes chat, with translation, each person got like 2 minutes to say something but when he "leaked" this made up conversation to the press, he made it appear to be a 20 minute dressing down speech of Xi. He basically lied about the content of the conversation and used the lie to make himself "look good" for "standing up to China". What a joke as a leader. Any other country's leader would also be pissed off if someone did this to them.

Xi's translator didn't translate correctly, what Xi said is " Everything in our conversation is leaked to the media, that is not appropriate, moreover, IT(THE LEAKED INFO) IS NOT IN ACCORDENCE WITH WHAT REALLY HAPPENED", basically He is saying Trudeau's side is not respectful to the confidential nature of diplomacy and lied to media
He said "而且我们也不是那样进行的" that a polite way to say you lied, but the translator didn't express it

It not like this is the first time that Trudeau has talked behind a leader's back

What I am hearing from this is that Trudeau is a tragic joke on all fronts...

Why did CBC not dare to show the whole video and just the piece of Trudeau acting like a Robot saying sth even before the interpreter translated what Xi had said?

What this Charles Burton said can only fool those who don't understand Chinese. Mr. Xi's tone was quite gentle and genuine. In contrast, I think the tone of this Charles when he talked about China is very arrogant and full of disdain.

The "Body Language" said it all... President Xi Jinping could have said "In my Nation we have millions of rice fields and you are but one grain of rice"... Trudeau's days as a Politician appear over, both domestically and Internationally and that would be a good matter concerning Trudeau's interference with European Politics... His mouth has always been too big for his boots... Pretty hairstyles only get you onto the television and then the public sees the true colours, spots and stripes...

As Xi walked away and said "too naive" in regards to Trudeau, you folks didn't think it should be mentioned?

It is an embarrassment for Canada that it 's Prime minster behaves like a Gossiping Tarts in a world stage. Trump called him "two faces" remember. Thank you Mr Xi for telling Trudeau to put his manner back in.

I'm still baffled by the narrative of these journalists, China's President is voicing concerns about credibility that private talks were leaked to the media by the Canadian Pm, yet this wasn't an issue for discussion only the manner in which the Chinese president spoke to JT was important

It is a common sense that you don't want to talk to a person doesn't follow the press guide line. That is a very basic rule for international conversations.

Xi’s body language was one of annoyance and dismissal. JT has become a dismal performer in the eyes of the world imo. But somehow CBC still tries to shine up his dirty shoes and it ain’t workin.

The part that Xi said which the interpreter hasn't had the chance to translate was: 'If you have the sincerity, then let's have good dialogue with an attitude of having mutual respect. If not, the outcome will be unpredictable.'

The video ended with Xi saying softly: so naive....

In fact at the start when Xi said: 'It's not appropriate', the tone of it is more like: 'well it's not appropriate mate' (in the Australian tone). Not even harsh.

Xi just want to talk to the people running Canada not some school kids on a trip to Asia.

It shouldn't be translated into "the results can't be predicted", but "the results would be hard to say". The tone is so different, the latter is without intimidating. The NY Times is translating it right.

I don't blame President Xi at all for his disdain against Trudeau. I have total disdain for " sockboy". He is an embarrassment to this country, but, you folks keep re-electing him, so we're stuck with him for a while yet!

I miss the days when canada was a good and respected country around the world, it did not take long for him to destroy canada's reputation and standing in the world.

Your reporting is simply WRONG. It’s not like the interpreter didn’t translate everything Xi said. Trudeau literally interrupted the interpreter very rudely.
