I am an amateur boxer, have had 3 fights, spar regularly. Not claiming to be an expert but most hook punches are set up with straight ones. So for example a double jab right hand with a left hook on the end. You will have to deal with 3 very fast powerful punches, plus a powerful one at the end of the combination, unless you have much boxing experience it is very hard to counter, to much to think about. Not many boxers will just throw a hook at the beginning of a combination, let along throw one that is shown in the video, plus when people throw a hook there face is well protected with there other hand and the fact the the hook punch is there aswell. Intercepting punches is very hard to do against somebody that has fast hands.

this is the way we counter as well, but explaining with a bat is a nice touch.

The only problem I see with this is that a Boxer does not punch like that! A boxing Hook comes in shorter and tighter and is usually a follow up from something else?

That would not work against a person who actually knows how to box. Looks cool against a willing partner but in real life youre gonna get your face broken. Look how high up in the air the guys chin is lol.

I love too see these centuries old Martial Arts being applied in today's day and age. Continuing to evolve and adapt, I truly believe in your Wing Chun system I seen some that look useless, much respect to you and your Sifu. I really want to learn this as well. 👍👊👏

Big question. Do you think if you train hard enough in wing chun. you could become an mma champion? I want to get serious in it and have that as my goal. I know ip man did it.

This is not a boxing hook punch a hook is 90 degrees

Might work again random haymaker but not against boxing skills. Even someone with one years worth of training is going to throw better tighter hooks than shown here.

That was awesome! Good methods if someone comes at you with a bat too, if you're fast enough ;p

Oh man...all the comments on all these videos lol
Mostly people who have become convinced that the ufc is the ultimate litmus test for martial arts, which is false.
They dont understand that a basic movement is just that, a basic movement which is not presented as an absolute technique.
Nor do they understand that learning is a long process. Dont be so impatient to dismiss things without understanding its usefulness or purpose.

And dont think i havent seen comments from wing chun users! They are exact opposite of the ufc types, people who idolise more traditional forms and believe other forms have no thinking, training, or technique behind them.

A hook is absolutely nothing like a baseball bat swinging. I'd compare it more to a race car cutting around a corner. Throwing a proper hook is about positioning yourself and throwing it at the right angle to get around a glove and to the target without losing speed/momentum. Also, if a boxer has any kind of decent technique, you're not going to be able to tell whether he's throwing a straight punch down the middle or hook around your guard until pretty late. So you're going to eat a lot of straight punches trying to intercept those hooks (especially with the way your chin sticks straight up in the air when coming forward).
