My house was built in 1954 we bought the house in 1998. When we moved in, I went to turn off the water main and the gate valve knob broke off in my hand. Soon after fixing the broken main valve I replaced every valve in the house with ball valves. Contrary to what most people think ball valves do leak from the packing nut sometimes. You showing this is needed on Youtube because a lot of Youtubers don't live in reality and only like to show the up side of a job. Thanks

I thought I fried my brand new ball valve 1/4 turn spigot or something, was leaking right out of the top. Had a feeling there was a fix, sort of felt dumb missing the obvious heh. Snugged it up and no leak. GREAT to-the-point video, thanks! Also your channel looks to have some good practical homeowner knowledge, subbed.

This was exactly the issue my home's leaky main valve HAD. I was able to fix with your video. Thank you.
BTW, I did call plumber from 'reputed company' in Charlotte before I watched this and they charged $89 for diagnostics. He quoted $620 to change ball valve (needed!) and pressure regulator (recommended!). Without the regulator it was about $580. I was also told the leak might increase considerably if not fixed quickly. The price blew me off, so declined the fix. This is nothing but cheating and lying to customer.
Thank you again for saving my hard earned money !! Subscribed ! 😀

My main interior shutoff was leaking, making everything else more difficult. Easiest fix ever. Thank you.

Wanted to say thank you for sharing. It worked for me and stopped the leak on my 1/4 turn!

Thanks. It was my first time soldering pipe and I thought I had gotten it too hot. I didn't want to have to replace what I had just finished.

Thank you for this video. This video covers a ball valve leak from the stem. But what to do if the leak is inside (allowing a small trickle through even when fully closed). Thanks for any updates!

I just installed 4 1/2" RELIABILT ball valves with drain and they were good in the off position but as soon as I opened them, 3 started leaking at the handle. The 4th and 5th(different brand) are going to be taps for something in the future so I cannot open them to test unless I put a cap on it. What a bunch of crap for something brand new. I was able to tighten them OK and stop the 3 from leaking. Was 10mm and 12mm for the nut sizes. I hope this never happens to the one that has the handle thread locked or epoxied. Thanks for the video.

Now I can fix the ball valve and the building am working. It’s just tedious because it’s a small space and I can barely see the valve. But this helps me out a lot. Thanks

I got a NIBCO 1" ball valve upstream from my meter. if I need to stop the water I've got to get the county water authority to come out. This valve has been leaking out the stem for quite a while because the leak severely rusted the handle and there is calcium carbonate all over the outside of the pipe below the valve. NIBCO doesn't want you to get into the stem packing. (They say you will surely die if you do.) They say tighten the packing nut 1/8 turn at a time until the leak stops. So far I've turned it 1/8 and it appears to have stopped. How long should I wait to see if a drop forms?
