My name is Jens Larsen, Danish Jazz Guitarist, and Educator. The videos on this channel will help you explore and enjoy Jazz. Some of it is how to play jazz guitar, but other videos are more on Music Theory like Jazz Chords or advice on how to practice and learn Jazz, on guitar or any other instrument.

The videos are mostly jazz guitar lessons, but also music theory, analysis of songs and videos on jazz guitars.

Beautiful Concept! I've spent "Decades" discovering and rediscovering these pentatonic scale devices. Minor 7th - minor pentatonic from the 5th. Altered Dominant - minor pentatonic from the b3rd. Major 7th - minor pentatonic from the major 7th. I Absolutely Love Your Channel! You have the discipline I never had....I have the knowledge to "totes appreciate" what you are offering guitar players on the path.

The "shorts" help much better than a long leasson. I have been playing this in my Ukulele for about one hour. Finally got what is that "2-5-1" thing. It isn't that complicated but when teachers talk about it, they bury it with tons of other things. A small capsule like this goes long ways. One step at the time. This week, I'll try in the guitar too. 😮

Great tip Jens.

Love those Altered Dominants; only the natural 7 is approaching an "avoid note". It's like you always say, sounding 'Jazz' is all in the phrasing.

That's what I'm talking about.
Over the 2 chord you super imposed up a 5th. V chord you super imposed up a minor 3rd for the altered scale. Over the 1 chord super imposed major pent up a 2nd (same as minor down a half step) to yield Lydian.
Most people don't understand how to come up with this

Nice one! I saw a lesson on this by Vic Juris, too. Wondering how much you’ve delved into this concept and applied it to tunes. It often feels a bit unwieldy when I actually go try to use it. Thanks, Jens!

This is crazy, would really to know the reason/theory for the pentatonic choice for each chord. I just can't work it out :(

If you close your eyes it’s almost like Arnold Shwarzenegger is giving you a guitar lesson.

How did you know to play Bm over the 1 chord?

Don't wanna sound like a theory idiot here, but how do you relate the jazz chords to regular minor pentatonic scales? Is there a complementary go-to relationship?
