Jaw swelling can be caused by multiple reasons. First of all it can be because of an infection related to a particular tooth, generally a swelling can be seen when the infection is seen spreading beyond a certain extent. So it can be very obvious if there is severe inflammation and jaw swelling because of many other reason like salivary gland problems there is a gland there that can cause problems or there is a change that is associated with the bone. These kind of changes can also result in jaw swelling. So how to manage this is dependent upon the reason why you have a swelling. For example if you have an infection that is going beyond or you call a space infection, then surgical intervention is required. If you have a parotid gland problem or a salivary gland problem, then we need to attend the problem there can be a block in the duct and there can be an inflammation of your salivary gland. If you have changes in the bone then that needs to be attended differently. so when you first come to a dentist with jaw swelling the first thing that needs to be understood is what the problem is and where the problem has started and an x-ray and other diagnostic measures are used to identify the reason for jaw swelling and that problem is attended accordingly.

I currently have painless swelling in my left jaw and doctors still have no clue to what it is because i have had no other symptoms other than headaches and a little bit of dizziness and nausea here and there.
