In this video, I explore the different types of emotional eating, categorizing them into three areas: pleasure, pain, and purity. While emotional eating is often viewed negatively, I believe it’s natural and something many people do occasionally. However, it can become problematic when used as a primary tool to cope with emotional needs. By identifying which type of emotional eating resonates with you, you can better understand the underlying needs or emotions you're attempting to address through food.
Starting with pleasure-driven emotional eating, this often involves using food to create a sense of enjoyment or comfort, whether through special occasions or as a source of daily comfort when life lacks other pleasures. On the other hand, pain-based emotional eating is about avoiding discomfort, using food to soothe, numb, or even dissociate from difficult emotions. Finally, purity-related emotional eating involves using food to maintain a sense of control or self-worth, where eating becomes intertwined with self-esteem, sometimes leading to restrictive or rigid eating habits.
I share my experiences as a psychotherapist, highlighting the importance of recognizing the feelings behind emotional eating and reframing our relationship with food. Addressing our emotions and self-acceptance can help shift patterns with food, making lasting behavioral change possible. My work includes individual and group therapy, and I offer online resources for those wanting support with food and emotional health. If you're interested in exploring this journey, check the description for more details about my services. Thanks for watching, and I look forward to seeing you in the next video!
