Not true for me! Whole food vegan for 15 years at blood test in January my LPa was 204 nmol and safe range is under 75. Added niacin, eggs, cheese, fish once a week and lots of fats like avocado, seeds and nuts and nut butters. And at 6 month mark my LPa dropped to 72. HDL 80, LDL 70, triglycerides 38 and all inflammation markers dropped to optimal levels. Reason? Vegan diets are very high in carbs and fruits are literally just sugar. I only eat a small handful of blackberries or raspberries a few times a week. My blood glucose also perfect range now. The BIGGEST cause of heart disease is inflammation. Even slightly elevated glucose increases inflammation- and all carbs/starches concert to glucose.

My LPa was 312 nmol/L, went on a whole food plant based diet, no nut butters, no avocados, and a month later my LPa was 246 nmol/L. No pills, just real, Whole Foods. Getting it checked again next week to see if it’s even lower. I order my own labs and I’m tracking how much my labs change with my new plan t based diet 🤗

LPa apparently sets the hair trigger level for foam cell activation (white blood cell recruitment) to isolate infection bound and oxidized ldl that make it past the Glycocalyx and Endothelium into the artery wall. After all, a person could bleed out if the outer artery wall become infected. This is why a bad genome for either liver receptors or hyper LPa, will cause Atherosclerosis, perhaps regardless of the diet. 7 studies that passed muster, say L-Carnitine lowers LPa.

Maybe for some but following the Esselstyn diet I still developed plaques in my coronary arteries. It's nice to think about but that combined with running did not keep plaques from forming in my arteries over a 10 year period.

I am on plant based diet (inc wholegrain, no refined grains/sugar) for last 2 years.. my LDL has hit rock bottom, BUT recently did LP (a) test at St Barts Hospital (London) and sadly its 165% more than the maximum upper limit ( 300 is max, Mine was 482- i cant remember the units they use in UK).
Would love to hear some ppls comments as to what i can do to lower my LP(a)
Thanks

Watching this and reading the comments with great interest. I have lp (a) 470mg/l (normal under 300mg/l), this was measured after being on plant based diet for 18 months (no oil, fat or sugar or refined food. just a little bit of fish sometimes for omega3) (generally sticking to Dr esselstyne diet). i was shocked when I found out about my blp(a) reading. LDL and total cholesterol are very low. I had a stent in my LAD 3 years ago.
I really want to lower this lp(a) as much as possible. love to hear what others have done to reduce their lp(a). Any useful tips are always welcome

I was recommended Co q10, Vitamin C (three grams throughout the day, use the garden of life one), magnesium, plant base for a couple of weeks, you also need to take Homocysteine test. I'm not good at following it, but doctor Ludwig Jhonson recommends it.
