Why Protestant Doctrine Is Unbiblical

Tim Staples highlights several key passages in Scripture which directly refute the Protestant doctrine of salvation by faith alone and show that Jesus established the Catholic Church as the true authority of His Word.

Tim Staples is Director of Apologetics and Evangelization here at Catholic Answers, but he was not always Catholic. Tim was raised a Southern Baptist. Although he fell away from the faith of his childhood, Tim came back to faith in Christ during his late teen years through the witness of Christian televangelists. Soon after, Tim joined the Marine Corps.

During his four-year tour, he became involved in ministry with various Assemblies of God communities. Immediately after his tour of duty, Tim enrolled in Jimmy Swaggart Bible College and became a youth minister in an Assembly of God community. During his final year in the Marines, however, Tim met a Marine who really knew his faith and challenged Tim to study Catholicism from Catholic and historical sources. That encounter sparked a two-year search for the truth. Tim was determined to prove Catholicism wrong, but he ended up studying his way to the last place he thought he would ever end up: the Catholic Church!

He converted to Catholicism in 1988 and spent the following six years in formation for the priesthood, earning a degree in philosophy from St. Charles Borromeo Seminary in Overbrook, Pennsylvania. He then studied theology on a graduate level at Mount St. Mary’s Seminary in Emmitsburg, Maryland, for two years. Realizing that his calling was not to the priesthood, Tim left the seminary in 1994 and has been working in Catholic apologetics and evangelization ever since.

I'm not Catholic and I believe faith without works is dead but I am not saved because of my works. I'm saved because of Christ's finished work. Is this not what protestants teach? How is this not what the bible teaches?

“Yet we know that a person is not justified by works of the law but through faith in Jesus Christ, so we also have believed in Christ Jesus, in order to be justified by faith in Christ and not by works of the law, because by works of the law no one will be justified.” Galatians 2:16.
“For we hold that one is justified by faith apart from works of the law.” Romans 3:28.
“For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast.” Ephesians 2:8-9

As a Catholic, I feel like Protestants think that Catholics believe they are saved by works ALONE. Of course not! The works don’t count if they are not rooted in faith in love. God bless anyone reading this comment.

a genuine faith will always be followed by works springing out of that faith

Justification by faith is correct. The fruits of good works are 'indicators' that shows that you are on the right tract, they don't save you.Jesus does.

Ephesians 2:8-9
8 For it is by grace(A) you have been saved, (B) through faith(C)—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— 9 not by works, (D) so that no one can boast.(E)

Isaiah says our good work in the eyes of God is filthy rags.. if good work can lead us to salvation then Jesus died in

It is especially on this matter that we as Orthodox Christians truly stand with our Latin brothers and sisters.

The opposite of orthodox is heretic and the opposite of catholic is schismatic, so it would seem that in the Great Schism, the Church organisationally decided to depart from what was right, & the west chose to prioritise preserving the Church from Peter while the east chose to prioritise preserving Her proper doctrines.

Our works are a byproduct of the faith that God has given us. Jesus did all the work that saves us and there is nothing that can be added to it

Faith is that which brings the Holy Spirit through the merits of Christ". ... All have sinned and are justified freely, without their own works and merits, by His grace, through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus, in His blood (Romans 3:23-25). This is necessary to believe.

WITHOUT THEIR OWN WORKS OR MERITS

Just what works did the thief on the cross do. He was saved by his faith.

We are saved by Grace through Faith and that was the revelation Luther had . Of course you catholics always cite and interpret scripture to fit your catholic narrative . To say that all protestants follow unbiblical doctrines that is exactly what you catholics are guilty of . You catholics sitting in a Roman Glass House throwing stones
