I rescued a Betta 2 weeks ago from the store where they were kept in tiny cups, filthy water and some were already dead. This one, I named Peaches, was looking up at me so I could not leave her behind. Your channel has been so vital in the care I intend to give. XO

My family bought a betta in California many years ago. We named him Panchovilla... he survived 105 degree water on a move to Arizona when the moving van's ac broke. Then our cats knocked over his bowl TWICE! Overnight he survived. Man he was a trooper. We all loved him dearly. He finally grew old and succumbed to dropsy. We buried him in a mini knitted sweater in a jewelry box for his coffin. RIP Panchovilla, you will be missed.

Our Betta lived 5 yrs and was in a little tiny fish bowl until the last few months of his life. I since discovered it was a miracle he lived so long, i have since learned from you all on the best conditions for Bettas. All three of our Bettas now are in 5-10 gals with plants and some tank mates ... thank you for all your knowledge and love for these fish!

I miss my Earl! He was my first betta(we had a couple growing up but Earl was the first that I bought for myself). I had him for almost 6 years. Started out in a bowl.. then a 1.7 gal tank where he stayed for the remainder of his life. He sure was tough cause I didn't have a heater for most of his life. I got one when he was like 4, and he was so happy! One day I came home and it was like 105°F that day.. his water temp had spiked to like 99°F and he looked crazy, like he was cooking in there! His eyes were popping out and he was sideways and just looked at me like, "HELP!".. I panicked and unplugged the heater.. totally thought he was gonna die but he pulled through and went back to normal. Had him for a couple more years after that. He survived the ups and down of me learning about fish and his needs. All the time he was my little buddy who was always happy to see me, and I him❤ miss that guy. I've learned a lot since my first betta! Lol

I was inspired to rescue a young, white Half Moon, after I saw your guy. My guy's fins are jagged and torn possibly due to a rock I had in his 10 gallon tank. I moved him into a 5 gallon, and he seems much happier and more relaxed. I am hoping his fins get better.

I'm getting myself a betta this Christmas and I'm really happy I found your videos, everyone else I checked out were either short videos, were uninformative or completely wrong- yet you guys have legit information, multiple videos AND very healthy looking I've never had a fish before but with your videos I feel confident that I'll have it for at least a year or two, thank you for the videos

Some pet stores even tell you they dont need heaters :(. At petsmart i word vomited "yes they do, theyre tropical fish!!" when I heard an employee telling customers they were the fish to buy if they didnt want to buy a heater. He honestly looked relieved that I turned the people off and proceeded to tell me its corporate policy to do that. Petco's website says they only need 1/4 of a gallon!!! I boycotted these places even though its made shopping for my various pets a pain, its worth it because theyre corporate monsters! I love your videos guys, so bummed I couldnt/can't make any of the aquashellas this year. Hopefully next year!

I had a terrifying scare with my Betta. I did my water change for his 10 gallon tank as usual, but a couple days later I noticed that his fins were ragged. And it was getting worse. I used my test kit and discovered to my horror that there was 3ppm ammonia in there! Turns out my city water has ammonia now when it never did before... My poor boy lost half his tail to ammonia burns from this fiasco. Thank heavens I caught it in time to save him and his snails. His tail has just started to visibly grow back today. <3

I give mine 4 pellets daily and skip one day a week SOME times I'll give them like 3 vibrates right before bed time xD but not every day. I love when everyones like oh I use the spoon and just give them a spoonful of food a day >_< it makes me cringe!

I love your straight forward way of educating, Lisa…“ don’t be lazy, don’t be stupid” should be a catchphrase for all fish keepers!

Thanks for the excellent info as always! I never knew bettas were so intelligent and interactive until I got Martok a year ago. I love my little wet buddy and have spent at least 10 times his purchase price in live plants and a 10 gallon upgrade. Not to mention all of his fancy little shrimp roommates! I am lucky, he has been a very good tank mate for my shrimpies and watching them scurry around seems to provide some enrichment for him. He is target trained and gets hand fed, no wasted food. He enjoys gentle pats and head boops as well. I doubt if I will ever dare to have another betta in that tank when Martok is gone, I don’t want all my shrimpies to get slaughtered 😱

I took so much care putting together the most ideal betta tank I could! 15 gallon cube. A fluval 107 filter, but turned way down so there wasn't too much current. A TON of plants, including water lettuce, and anubias plants with big leaves near the surface to rest on. Driftwood that I sanded carefully so nothing would tear his fins. Slate with no sharp edges. Caves for hiding in, lots of safe hiding spots, Indian almond leaves, temp set to 80... I pre-cycled by running the cannister in an existing mature tank for 3 weeks, which shortened the nitrogen cycle in the new tank to a single week!
I made a major mistake by adding two honey gourami to my main tank when I already had one established adult. Established adult wasn't having it, and I was scared the juveniles would die of stress or get beat up, so now I have a 15 gallon cube with a single honey gourami in it. Heh!
Planning to get some kuhlli loaches for the tank, and then I have to decide if I want to keep the honey gourami in it (he is a prior commitment, after all) and set up a 10 gallon I recently got for a betta, or see if time outside of his old territory while the other two gourami grow up will lead to a better balance, or war.

At any rate, I think we should all do our best to make the lives of any beings under our care as happy, healthy, and full of enrichment as possible.

My aunt had a betta in a 1.5 gallon bowl. He lived for NINE years, and had a great personality.
