As someone who keeps primarily long finned bettas and is often rescuing them from stores, you must must MUST be prepared and fully equipped to deal with all their health problems. They are like the pugs of the fish world and are not a ‘low maintenance’ betta.

Interaction is soooo true. My little boy dances with excitement every time he realizes I’ve entered the room. I’m afraid to see what he does when I’m not there, because honestly I imagine him just sulking waiting for my return since he’s always hiding until he realizes I’m there.

I moved my 2 yr old Betta girl to a community tank because I felt bad that she had no company while I was away at work. She was annoyed but fine the first day. The second day she was trying to kill everything. I could tell she was upset about not having me all to herself because she would always hang around where I was by the tank. I guess the only interaction she wants now is from me. Man. What a princess.

Thank you for mentioning how much bettas need interaction! Even my boy Pascal who’s in a community 20 gallon won’t eat unless I pet his fins a little (with safe clean hands). He loves it and wiggles around in circles until I give him his pets

Got a small (at the time) red and white betta in 2021. Basically the second I put him in my 10 gallon, he doubled in size. Pretty sure he was a king betta but the store put the wrong tag under his tank. Miss my lil rosé :, )

Got my first betta, It lived in a 5 gallon tank for its whole life and unfortunately passed away so soon. Lasted only 3 months.. I did water changes weekly and cycled the tank properly. No expired foods or nothing bad. It suddenly one day had fin rot and passed away. Probably due to bad genes..My first betta, Berri (because his colour looked like a blueberry) was so kind and would always come to the front of the tank swimming side to side everywhere whenever he would see me. To this day, I regret what I did wrong because it’s hard without him 💔

Also, I love your fish keeping videos! Keep it up 👍

I have a half moon betta named Captain America because of his red while and blue colors. He lives in a 10 gallon by himself apart from the few ramshorn snails that snuck in the tank. Going strong at nearly 3 years old

I have two beautiful Moon Bettas in seperate 4-gallon tanks that rest on my shelves at eye-level.

A pearl white ghost that I’ve named “Casper” and an absolutely pitch black darker than night, “Val.”

Casper lives in a heavily fern planted tank where the leaves reach the surface and sometimes grow out of it. He loves it because like a cat; he will find any tight space to snuggle in and also sleeps under one like a blanket. He is also very social and recognizes me on sight.

Val lives in a custom scape that is particularly heavy on water lettuce on the surface and the roots hit close to bottom where the floor is shrouded with Java Moss. He likes to slowly creep around the roots which makes him look like a predator. He sleeps under a plastic toy I had specifically custom coated myself. He is especially shy to strangers other than me.

Thank you for the insight! I'm thinking I've just had bad luck with my plakat lately, lost two due to tumors. But my veiltail is still going strong 2 years later, definitely slowing down but he still takes the time to greet me every morning 😊

My half moon betta loves his anubias, its grown pretty large since we put it in the tank and it's his favorite little hiding spot 😊 just watched a new leaf finish unfurling yesterday

- I have a betta with shrimp, a nerite snail and a mystery snail, all in a 5 gallon tank.
- a Betta, 4 neons, 2 kuhli loaches, 7 amano shrimp, and 2 nerites in a 16 gallon tank.
- a mustard gas betta, 2 nerites, and 20 shrimp in an 8 gallon tank.

All have live plants, tanks have lids and heaters.
I confess, the 5 gallon and the 16 gallon tank only get water added because of evaporation.
The 5 gallon tank had a new betta added this spring, the previous betta was almost 4 when he died.

Have put my beta into a 70 litre tank and he loves it as he can explore more.He has tankmates and he does indeed interacts with them.I keep him and his mates in blackwater.I don't change the water any longer, I only top up (But, I have 3 inch of substrate and the tank is pretty much self sustaining with plenty of microorganism and other little critters.)

I know the bettas like tannins, but I can tell when my betta wants his water changed, because his gills start to get a little coloration.. he is VERY light pink. I have two mystery snails in with my rosetail betta, and he seems pleased. But what he loves the most is me me me, and honestly, I think he’s always dancing at the front of his tank to get me to come over lol.. two things he hates? If I turn up the water flow on his filter to increase circulation, and when I turn on his light at the wrong time. I just can’t believe how smart they are and I wish I could always just stand right there and entertain him or let him entertain me lol.
I got another betta, maybe a half moon Betta with a shorter tail. I got him because I thought MAYBE he could swim better; and he is super duper fast. So, you’re right about those tails.
