Consumer Reports lost whatever credibility they had years ago.

Have a friend who is a Toyota person. Bought bz4x about nine months ago. Been towed twice, ultimately returned to dealer for 'repairs' that took six weeks. To their credit Toyota provided a replacement vehicle while the bz was down.

My BYD Atto has been running like clockwork for fifteen months. Only visit to workshop has been for warranty check (no work required) and routine 20, 000 km maintenance (fluid checks, tire rotation and cabin hepa filter replacement). The Atto is a delight to own and drive.

A load of crap is right. I was an automotive engineer in the USA and wondered how CR got its data. Two cars using the same parts built in the same factory, sold under 2 different brands, had totally different reliability ratings and frequency of repair data. Nothing has changed over the years.

I had a consumer reports subscription. The advice is horrible. I would not consider consumer reports information when shopping because it is clearly gamed by companies.

Nissan leaf has a long history of being very reliable and the 2023 model is just a facelift.

My best friend is laughing like crazy at the notion that the Tesla Model S is the least reliable vehicle on that list. He has owned two and says they're the best cars he's ever owned for reliability (and every other way!). He also says he doesn't trust Consumer Reports at all because so much of their funding comes from the Ford Foundation.

I recently subscribed to Consumer Reports Magazine. I have never seen an advertisement of any kind in it.

The biggest problem is the numbers of the cars sold vary so much for the report to be really accurate

According to Wikipedia, Consumer Reports is “funded by subscriptions to its magazine and website, as well as through independent grants and donations.. . CR accepts no advertising, pays for all the products it tests, and as a nonprofit organization has no shareholders.”

Why the claim that CR accepts advertising?

When I was living in Europe I had a VW Golf, which was the number one car sold in Europe and was considered one of the most reliable back there.
Later I moved in the US. I noticed that Customer report completly discredited VW in particular the Golf.
Anyway I bought a US made VW Golf and I still have it after more than 30 years and 300, 000 miles.
It was at the time when the CBS TV program '60 minutes' used a rigged Audi 5000 to "demonstrate" that this car accelerated suddenly on its own !!!!

"Since our founding in 1936, Consumer Reports has had a no commercial use policy restricting the use of its content. This stemmed from a belief we still hold today: that consumers should have appropriate context and information when learning about our ratings and reports." "Consumer Reports always chooses which products to test, buys them at retail and never accepts payment from manufacturers to rate their products." ~ Consumer Reports - They may not be right but they don't accept advertising.

FYI CR buys it's own cars and does not except advertising. In addition, it reports on the owner/reader reviews and does extensive testing and evaluation.

Their reliability numbers are based on owner responses, which I think is generally a good way to find out reliability, as long as they get enough responses for a given model.

consumers reports have always failed when it comes to autos.

We have had a few takes on this channel about certain car company bosses being over paid, will be interesting to see Electric Viking's take on the recent news in relation to that.

Tesla is the best car company ever and no maintenance no gas stations no oil changes no smog check no corrupt dealerships no slimy car salesman

Sam, according to Wikipedia (and consistent with what I "thought"), Consumer Reports DOES NOT ACCEPT ADVERTISING.
Can you verify?

I can only talk about my Leaf. 62kWh battery and it has been completely reliable over its, so far, 85, 000km. Something I really like about the Leaf is its speedometer display which you view through the top half of the steering wheel. Touch screens have no place in vehicles any more than you should dial your phone while driving. Perhaps Tesla could look into this sort of display for the up and coming affordable Tesla.
