I agree 100% with Dr. Klaper. Focus on the healthy eating and not on the numbers when it comes to cholesterol.

Dr. Klaper's words are so reassuring! After a year on a WFPB diet and my cholesterol didn't change, remained at 177 or so. I was so discouraged I didn't get to 150 or below! My doctor was not discouraged at all, he reminded me that the body makes cholesterol.

Thank you Dr Klaper for showing me the big picture regarding my elevated cholesterol despite being vegan for a year and a half. I have a LDL of 146 and HDL of 76. My goal is to eat more greens but now I will have less stress because I know my arteries are most likely clear.

This was an awesome what I needed to hear.

Thanks I needed and wanted to hear this. I have been vegan 2.5 years just finally did a blood test my results are not too high but I was a little confused that they were high at all. I appreciate this video. Thanks again.

He keeps it real I love it. Overdiagnosing to sell more drugs that don’t really help anything is our sad state of medicine. Wfpb for the win!

I’ve been vegan (eating mostly Whole Foods) for a couple of years, and today I got my blood results back and got super disappointed. I expected my cholesterol to be far lower than what I got.. I’m happy to hear this genuine advice

Thank you for this information. I have been vegan for 5 years and the doctor just told me my cholesterol was high . I was dumbfounded because I’m vegan and I eat no cholesterol. I think I should tell her to test my arteries not my cholesterol.

Just got my blood lipid panel completed with a total cholesterol level of 224. Got a call from the doctor's office within 4 hours asking if I wanted to start a low dose of statins. 5'10, 154 pounds, regularly exercise, BP at 110/60, pulse at 46. Primarily plant based diet. Uh, no thanks doc.

I eat a very low fat, low sugar, whole grain plant based diet for a few years. I have been a vegan since my 20's, I did smoke from 18-22y. I used to be an avid surfer and biker...but now an avid gardener, but get moderate exercise walking/jogging. I have high LDL cholesterol and have for a long time. My total is usually 200-220 and LDL 140-160. My VLDL is low normal and Triglycerides Normal and HDL Normal. BP 115/75. I do take supplements like curcumin and magnesium. I do have palpitations and a family history of young deaths from heart disease. I got a calcium score done as was concerned of my risks due to my high LDL and Family history. Had a high score. The docs want me to take statins, and may have to due to my risk. Statins are controversial. Conflicted, but my Calcium score was a wake up call. Statins do not just treat cholesterol, they novelly help with inflammation and that is why they prevent death. There are risks and modest benefits. Tuff decision. But it is tough for some folks with bad genes like a high Lipoprotein (a) or APOE gene, or other inflammatory processes from autoimmune diseases that the plant based diet and exercise cannot fix alone. They can certainly curb your outcomes. I will still be on a low fat whole grain vegan for the rest of my life, but not sure it is a 100% cure for people like me.

Love this commentary from Dr. Klaper! Thank you so much! I am a Plant-based nutritional therapist and totally meticulous about eating a clean, low fat Whole plant-based diet. But...I have genetic familial Hypercholestremia. My total is over 200, but C reactive Protein (CRP, measure of inflammation is VERY low). I constantly am having heated discussions with my primary physician about my refusal to take statins. I'm going to take him the link to this video!

Finally a video that puts me at ease. I've been vegan 9 years but have high cholesterol (and blood pressure), but I have been medicated the last few years to keep the numbers "withing range". But I hate that I, who eat all this whole foods plant food, should have to medicate myself to avoid disease.

I believe this to be an intelligent and balanced approach to the "tryanny" of numbers. Eat whole plant based foods whenever possible. Preferably, all the time

I wish I could talk to Dr. Klaper! I have been whole food plant based for 2.5 years and healing slowly from Lupus and Hashimotos and getting so much better but I’m still very overweight with about 60-70 pounds to lose. Last year my total cholesterol was 246 so I went on a severely low fat whole food plant based diet but I wouldn’t lose weight, then a month ago I added in huge salads with some dressings made with tahini or cashews and lost 14 pounds so far! But then I got my cholesterol tested and it was I’m just crushed. I don’t eat oil or junk and don’t know which variation to follow. Super low fat with just flax seed or continue with dressings because I’m losing weight so well now. 😰
