Thank you for this tip! I am very shy so asking to shoot a video for someone has always kept me from becoming an editor. You’ve changed my perspective and given me hope! Thank you!

Completely out of stock footage!!! I was just shocked when you first said that it is possible to do that, and I definitely think Artlist will help me out a lot! Great video as always, Jay!

Thanks SO much for this video. Man I'm excited. Felt like so many channels would discuss everything but how to create your own portfolio without also being a videographer.

A friend recommended this video to me because I'm in that spot where I will need to branch out for clients, but have no idea where to start with a portfolio. Thank you so much, this gave me hope. I just have one problem that I'll still need to get past, and that's the fact I can't afford any of these stock sites' subscriptions just yet

I've graduated from University for a few months now and have had no luck in finding a job, it really is a Catch 22. This video is really what I needed right now, hoping I can get actual clients soon. Thanks.

Dude, so glad I found you!! I’ve been scouring the Internet to find something about video editing that doesn’t require the use of knowledge of a camera. Thank you!!

I think if you are using stock footage to market to the music biz, the most important focus is the person singing or soloing and unfortunately that would be pretty hard to pull off. A good idea would be to get a friend or even yourself to lip sync - the lack of nobody actually singing, makes the music video a little bit unnatural and gives away the illusion. You could however wear a mask, or put tons of kiss like makeup on, and/or throw a really heavy effect on the clips - but seeing someone sing in a music video is really important, unless you have a really strong story.
But in most cases it will be a band choosing you to do their video.
Most of my work in the 15 years has come from the music business, I was hired because of my past experience in the music business and thinking and interacting with musicians.
But your good advice for people there, to target different businesses or even categories of businesses. It is my experience that if you have a bunch of commercials for lawyers - other lawyers think you are the one they should choose etc. . Even though there is nothing different to know, the inference is you would be better for them.
That is great advice Jay. You have to draw a map for some people to see by them visualising themselves in your video. Congrats again on the 40k.

Thank you for this video. I was thinking to learn how to edit videos. YouTube served this video up as the very first video that I should watch. And, while I don't have anything to compare it to, as it's the first video editing video that I watched, I learned a lot. Thank you again.

As a pro there was a point you have a fear of what is in this profession for you.
Right now, this is my stage and i know someone can help me build my confidence. I need a mentor in this career.

Well I think the story was there, and a few of the drum solos and guitar solos fit, the couple fighting was a great match to the song and how it escalated through the story, however no one singing up close in that natural emo emotion with the crazy hair the dim light and the wild makeup it fell through on those parts. that being said I think from stock footage it was great!.

Cool video. Definitely turned out pretty well with the resources you used. Would have loved to see some footage of a singer in there to make it more cohesive but again great job with the materials you had!

Crazy how you had this idea a year before me. I did the same thing on my channel with my music video called "Back In Love". I also have a short film on my film channel titled "Before I Beat Her" all made completely out of stock footage.
