Escapism isn't really "aw man I wish this was me" but more so "life sucks so I'm going to revel in the fantasy of video games because what I can do in the game is mostly impossible in my real life"

It is basically the same thing as "it is fun". You enjoy it because it's different from your actual life.


I don't think that idea is wrong at all imo, it makes sense to me. Movies are also a form of escapism so yeah lol.

You dont like GTA bc you wanna rob banks irl, but you like the freedom it gives you, freedom that you dont have irl, the freedom to do some nasty tricks on a car and go wherever you wanna go on the map, the freedom to decide whether you wanna run over the npc passerby or not

I play games to explore the worlds, characters, stories, and just cause I thought it looked interesting.

I actually play GTA because it feels like you can do so much without any consequences, its in a way relaxing not having to stress about what could happen if i do something bad.

I dont think escapism is really larping who you wish to be more so than it is a world where you are ultimately free from real world stress and consequences

Personally I don't play GTA because it reminds me of reality, I do play parkour maps every so often tho

Idk I do play Overwatch to feel like a superhero (I’m a support main & my teammates always dodge my healing)
