Learn about that F chord in my guitar program, 52 Week Guitar Player. Check out the pinned video "How Good is 52 Week Guitar Player Actually" for more information about the program. We are closed for enrollment but will re-open in mid-December. We will only accept 100 new students

I just do the caveman method. I play an F/C and grip the low F with my thumb. I find this way is a lot easier if you’re switching between C and F a lot

You can also just make it f major 7 by letting the top string ring out, plus you can play that bottom A string and have Fmaj7/A, which personally I think sounds very nice in the key of C or F. This also enables you to use a Hendrix grip to mute the bottom string and now you don’t have to worry about accuracy as much when strumming, because you can’t play any strings on accident. Hope this helped someone :)

I am going to keep practicing barre chords just to prove to this guy that I'm not a bitch

Roll your index finger so edge of your index does the work is one trick for 1st position F. This part of the finger is harder and one doesn't have to squeeze as hard to make the chord.

When I first taught by my friend, first lesson was playing the F Barre chord. And he said practice until all the strings ring. . Next lesson was Bb barre. I had no idea people struggled with these until i got older. Though I was taught to fret all three strings with my ring finger while not muting the first E string.

Thanks to you, I no longer take the word bitch as an insult. Not sure if it's good or bad😂
When I first learned how to play an F chord without barre, I never went back to the original version 😅

Here’s my secret to learning the F Chord!!!

Place your capo on fret 3 (or higher). Practice the shape of the F, and start using it in songs. It won’t sound good at first, but will be easier with the capo because the strings are close to the fretboard. The more you do this, the more your hand gets used to quickly creating that shape. Move the capo to fret 2 after a while, 1, and then nothing.

It makes it soooo much easier to learn any bar chord. Getting used to that shape is most important, the force to push down on the strings will come with time

drop 2 (3rd in bass)and drop 3(5th in the bass) voicings are so great.. i love moving from a V chord voiced as a drop 3 to a I chord root position
