I have a male FRIEND since high school, when my mother was living she treated him like a son. He and one of my now deceased sisters won class best dancers. He introduced his wife to me and my family. We are still FRIENDS today and we have always looked at each other as a sister and brother and his wife looks at me as her sister. Platonic friendships do occur.

If she wants to date her friends ex and he is wanting to date her then 9 times out of 10 they were fooling around or attracted to one another WHILE her friend was in a relationship with him. Kinda obvious.

I can't articulate it, but there's really something strange about dating your friend's ex or dating someone that your friend was in love with.... There are too many men in the world to settle with that one. I would strongly advise against it. I know I would feel some type of way, and it's not really something rational or something tangible that I can relate that feeling to.
