one drawback of forced reps is that the support can't be quantified and isn't consistent either.

I would prefer rest-pause reps or drop sets or, as Dr. Mike suggests, lengthened partials.

My last marriage felt like forced reps toward the end..

I appreciate your candor and not knowing everything. It is very refreshing and adds credence to your comments on various subjects. Tyvm for your honesty as well as adding some some other ideas that might also work.

Forced reps could be amazing for a final set for that muscle group. Imagine going all out on the final set for chest. Just doing whatever, drop sets, forced reps, some cheat reps as a final bit. It doesn't need to be quantifiable. The progression is on all the previous sets, and as long as you get a solid 5 strict reps for this final set, all the rest is just whatever you can muster.

There's too many factors to quantify for progression as strict as perfect form reps on every set. Your diet, weather, immediatw environment, stress and other mental factors, how near to your next bowel movement you are, how hydrated you are, time of day, before or after a meal, working alone, with a partner or sharing the equipment with someone else. All of these can factor into how intense your workout can be. So just making sure you go all out on the last set is just enough

Forced reps allows someone to do negatives which helps in strength. Especially when someone is stuck on the same weight.

Never good to be dependent on a spotter, etc. when training. Dr. Mike has indicated in other videos that studies show nearly the same results with leaving 1 - 2 reps in reserve vs. going to absolute failure.

Additional bonus is he gets a full eccentric rep after reaching failure on the concentric, ala Mike Mentzer, and going through the full rom might give some momentary reprieve to the stretcher muscle that would allow more lengthened partials than if he was simply moving back and forth in the stretch.

I feel like there is no exercise science. I feel like every week the advice changes.

Muscles are adaptive by assisting with a few more forced reps that expose the muscles to go beyond the normal stopping point.

When I was younger I did forced reps a lot. Now I’m old and I don’t, Probably because I don’t have a spotter.

It's nice psychologically for me to be able to push far beyond my normal abilties when a young friend of mine spots me. He's gotta be at least 100% stronger than me. He's encouraged me to force out half reps or dropsets that I wouldn't attempt without help, and he adjusts his effort so that I'm still pushing my muscles as hard as possible. Also, there's a lot of value in having a person encouraging you to do your best (and reducing the risk of being crushed to death)

I've thought about this a fair amount in regards to my own training at the beginning of the intermediate level. Since I also am not real sure about the worth of forced reps I will do them sometimes on some exercises but generally not do them the next time I perform those particular exercises. Today I did some forced reps on cable medial-head deltoid work but not on biceps training.

an even better method is to perform bent arm pullovers lying on a bench with a barbell

I value that you can admit when you don't know. Thank you for not making up something.

I am not a big fan of forced reps, feel like I am overly exert myself. And I would lose significant strength in the next set so in total I couldn't get in as much volume. But what do I know, I haven't even benched 225 yet

I'm a massage therapist of 30 years with a masters in human anatomy and physiology. Something I see in all of my clients men and women of all ages is overuse in certain areas and loss of muscle in others. I tell my clients all the time that your weight training needs to be more about PERFECT form than it is forced repetitions where you are sacrificing your form and correct body mechanics just trying to squeeze out a couple more reps

Forced reps was the only thing that made me achieve handstand push ups, negatives and reps with momentum, they are really fatiguing but they work to make you stronger. And being stronger makes it easier to get bigger
