It's even easier on an old school double ball end style headless. However this is made up for by the strings costing a fortune. My most recent set of bass strings cost £65 for a five string set. Ahh the price of maintaining one's hipster credibility.

Even easier on the models that have a little sled that holds the ball end. Detuning enough lets you just take the whole thing out without clipping it.

I was nervous that it would be complicated when I first got my headless 8 string but it's literally even easier than on my 6 and 7 with locking tuners.
