I remember one thing as a beginner it's super easy to break the high E when tuning it up. If you use an electronic tuner (like most of us) make sure you are not accidentally going for that second octave! I still go real slow and careful when tuning that string. Nothing worse than breaking a brand new string!

Nice "how to" Marty. The Elixir strings really do last much longer, the coating prevents rusting, I have experienced a big difference. Some people like me, seem to have acids in their sweat that gets on strings & corrodes them quickly. Well worth a try I believe.

Any reason for cutting the strings when restringing? I always find this just adds more time to the process when the strings can just be taken out whole. Also, it helps to make a little kink at the end of the string by the ball end to prevent the bridge pin from popping out. It will hold better against the bridge plate effectively. I put10 gauge elixirs on my old d28 martin sounds sweet and even though it doesn't have a truss rod it needed no adjustment to the neck.and I especially like the polyweb they have less noise as far as String squeak goes than anything I've found yet.and yes they're worth the cost . Last much longer than uncoated strings.the light strings makes it a joy for me to play again.my fingers aunt nearly as tuff as they use to be when I was young.
