For example, your Social Security number could have been stolen in a data breach at a company where you do business, or it could have been stolen from your computer or mobile device if you were infected with malware.

What should I do if my Social Security number is on the dark web?

Consider freezing your credit reports. This will prevent anyone from opening new accounts in your name, even if they have your Social Security number.

Had mine show up on Dark Web too. What irritates me is it came from a phone company that was hacked and they never told me it happened and I also do not remember giving them my SSN. They did what some doctors office do... they go find it on their own.

Very useful video. I put a freeze on my SSN with three credit bureau. Thank you thank you 🙂 Just a heads up for everyone. When I called Transunion, the outgoing message stated "due to Transunion data breach.... " at this point, everyone's SSN is most likely on the dark web.

Something VERY suspicious about my bank contacting me with a notice concerning my ssn on the dark web. The information was showing my name with an address that hasnt been used in over 30 years and a phone number that hasnt been used in over 15 years. I was never connected with that address or phone number. The address was my grandparent's address for this house but was changed by the state when the new 911 system was put in place. As for the phone number, It was also my grandparent's number which they used over 15 years ago before passing away and then I inherited their house. There is NOTHING that I have ever bought online or offline which I used their old address or disconnected phone number for, and therefore the info is being found and then put onto the dark web from some other means.

I just was alert the same thing I put a credit freeze you can lock your social security number but you won't have access to it if you were applying for a new job or open new accounts you would have to unlock it
