Its worse here, our economy is like a flailing fish, fighting for its life. The normal state of the U.S. economy is actually very bad. Because of this it goes into convulsive spasms fighting to grow any way it can out of desperation. Tricks, gimmicks, rule changes try to stimulate the economy and prevent it from falling but they only bring temporary relief to people since, when you factor in inflation we are declining.

Fuck that. The background check company needs be held accountable. Each American affected should get 2 million dollars . No exceptions

There needs to be penalties for allowing these data breaches to happen. Maybe send the CEO to prison for ten years.

Our gov't made us get these numbers. They are not for ID, just a number attached to us. Yet they never had the means to keep this information private. Brilluant, just brilliant.

You didn't answer the question in the headline. Nice clickbait, though.

There needs to be harsher penalties to the companies that are not keeping our info safe.

Real question is, how did the United States government allow a non-government company to get all that information in the first place. Because I never registered for anything that involves anything like that

What good is it to find out if your SS number was stolen? Suppose that you find out that, yes, your SS number was stolen. Can you steal it back? Can you call law enforcement and tell em, "Yeah, it's on the dark web. Send the cops."

And they want everyone to have a digital id? In your dreams.

The bigger question I have is who gave the company that was hacked permission to collect and store that information in the first place? Why are there not mandates in place to keep them from consolidating this data?

One of the largest data breaches? Which one was larger and when and why didn’t we know about it?

No excuse. We deserve to be compensated for potential damages and exposed vulnerability that we otherwise would not have been.

What a joke, as if freaking out and changing all your passwords is gonna make a difference. Everyone already does 2 factor authentication anyways

Harsher penalties for hackers? What about the government officials that outsourced the data and the company that allowed the data to be hacked - guess they just get a free pass?

How bout, get rid of our numbers and get new ones !!

Wouldn't it be nice if whoever is behind this "hack", instead of having ill intentions, they instead impact the people who are under "threat" in a positive way?? Like giving everyone an A+ credit score....😝
