How do Social Security Numbers work?

Your social security number has a secret code - here’s how it works.

If you live in and or were born in the U.S., chances are you have a social security number. These numbers were created in the 1930s to specifically track how much citizens earned so the Social Security program could accurately pay out benefits when people reached retirement ages. However, today, the system has expanded to any number of personal identification needs throughout the government and private sector.
In essence, your social security number is the barcode that identifies you in the US.

The serial numbers weren't always 4-digit sequential numbers. My parents applied for 4 SSNs, all at the same time, for their children in the 1970's. The numbers that were issued have an interesting pattern. If you drop the last digit from each SSN, the remaining 8 digits are consecutive numbers. The 9th digit appears to be either random, or a checksum.

I noticed that my immediate family mother father oldest son born 2008 have even middle numbers and all our first digits were 3.... my kids born after 2011 have odd middle numbers I saw a video a long time ago saying that they knew we were black based on our ssn having an even middle digit. But I can not find it.

The first two are where your from, the second two are the year you were born. i don't remember the remaining five. does any body know?

Such an outdated system. Why not link your social security to your passport or national ID? In Latvia we have a government website, where you can track all your dealings with the State. Unemployment benefits, your tax payments to social security and much more! You are given birth certificate at birth and it is parents responsibility to make a passport for you by the age of 7 if I am not mistaken.

No it's the number that you are sold for debt so America can get money is the other countries you're sold to come to collect well there's war and if America loses your the other countries property instead of the US governments property but don't be mistaken you are property
