Life in the Medieval times sucked for sure, but if you were a servant of the King, your life was really, really terrible. The King was the worst boss you could possibly have and in today's new video we are here to prove it. Let's go back in time to see what a day in the life of a King servant would really be like, and let us know if you think you would have been able to handle the job, or if this truly is the worst job of all time.

Fun Fact!
You have a better luxurious and hygienic life than a king in Medieval ages.
The only difference being the lack of servants and saying what is law.

in chinese, there is a saying that goes "Pun Quan Yu Pun Foo", roughly translated "Accompanying a King is like being with a Tiger" because you'll never know when you'll be eaten.

edit: thanks @Tris Chan for typing it in kanji \ han characters.. 伴君如伴虎 = "Pun Quan Yu Pun Foo"

If I served the King I would keep my head down and hang low. I would also have as many 'friendships' with other servants, soldiers, maybe some merchants and guild members, clergy and so on as possible in a way that was nondescript so if something goes south than maybe I have allies who could help me get out of trouble. That would be my strategy and I am so glad that I might never get a chance to test it out.

Being a court jester is probably the best job, you have a free pass when making fun of the king and his court

I look at these types of videos and wonder how people in the far future will view our way of life.

I've been researching my family tree, and I recently discovered that I had several ancestors who served royalty. One worked at Ludlow castle during the Wars of the Roses and was responsible for the military and weapons training of King Edward IV's sons. (Aka "the princes in the tower.") And, his wife was their governess. After the whole thing with Richard III, he threw in his lot with the other side. For that, Henry VII made him a knight, his personal treasurer, and a member of his privy council. And, another family member served Henry VIII. He married the sister of Henry's last wife, was awarded a bunch of titles, was a guardian for Henry's son, King Edward VI... He was definitely tight with the Tudors. So, multiple ancestors served multiple kings in multiple positions, and it seems things went really well for all of them.

I'd of gone for a knight they rarely called to the front lines and even then were given extra protection since they were so invaluable plus they lived lives of luxury while squires were basically peasants in armour

Servants to the king and queen were of noble blood and raised in the court. They understood the rules and risks. Also, a monarchy was always an autocracy. For a lot of history in Europe, the king had an official mistress and several lesser ones. Queen Consorts were only breeding machines. All power and all authority flowed from the king. Luckily life was short and nobody moved outside their social status. The Roman Catholic Church emphasised that suffering in life would be rewarded in death. I prefer to live my current life in this current timeline.
