I honestly and seriously wonder if this happened on the surface.
Like, rainbow light was seen shooting out the mountain like a volcano erupting, allowing the humans to become interested in what this was (and hopefully changed after several years) to be better prepared for the monsters returning to the surface to live with them peacefully.
