There is a .obsidian folder in any vault that contains many of the settings you configured in sync. The settings are stored locally per vault, so if one copies that vault to another machine, some settings, like plugins and data, hotkeys, themes and appearance settings should move too.

The Sync service does offer more involved features like syncing specific file types, though.

I'm currently looking in to if an encrypted cloud service would work as fluently as Obsidian's sync, which doesn't seem as robust, but seems worth it for collaboration with notes (and other files too!)

Thanks Curtis. Should I take the obsidian vault out of my syncing one drive then?

Isn't all the info on settings, plugins, themes, etc stored in the .obsidian folder? If you back that up on another cloud service wouldn't your settings also be intact?

Hi Curtis, thanks for the video, very helpful. I have only one question: if I want to use obsidian sync I have to put my vaults in the user folder and not in Documents, otherwise they would also sync with iCloud, right? Thank you, bye!

How should I do if I want to sync (for free) Obsidian on my Dell PC with my iPhone, my iPad and a second PC laptop at my work? Thank you

Obviously the better option is the paid one. People who look for these videos are looking for a free way to sync, what you're sharing here is obvious
