Whoa who's the genius who created that system?? Imagine him trying to explain it to his team "I'm telling you again, we've got that big gear surrounded by little gears all that on a bigger gear surrounded by medium sized gears ALL of that surrounded by a huge ring gear! This is a great example of an automatic 4-speed, it gets a lot more complicated when adding more gears. Usually an additional sun gear is added with the planetary housing and more clutch plates to achieve 6, then 3rd through 6th gear aren’t easily explainable because the second component is involved a lot more during the process.
