Thanks for this explanation. I do think that it's not the planetary gearing that is difficult to understand but how hydraulic pressure is used to control the clutches and how this interacts with the planetary gear system. The structure of the clutch packs is also complex and worthy of a model.

Best animation and illustration seen till now for explaining automatic transmission. You know, it will be even better if you show the same animation while taking a quarter section to show the ring gear movement before showing each section alone. It will make it more understandable.
