Camera Dynamic Range Explained!

The dynamic range of an imaging sensor, what is it? And what does it mean for your final image quality?

P.S: I realize I didn't annotate the examples while editing, but when the examples are shown, take a close look at the parts of the image where the trees are, and also the skies. That's where most the highlight and shadow details are lost.
