A typical sitcom will usually follow a year in the life of the characters through a single season. We’ll see different holidays, celebrations, and people getting older as time goes by. For That 70’s Show, things were a little different as the show was supposed to be set in the 1970’s only. Unfortunately for the creators, they premiered the show in 1976 and probably never expected it to last for so many seasons. Not only did the show last, but there are some crazy theories about why the timelines become so messed up.

The characters are in high school for five seasons, Christmas is celebrated four different times and a majority of the series takes place between 1976 and 1979 -- with 1976 only being half of the first season. dude, you're overanalyzing this. the simple fact of the matter is they had no idea the series would be so successful and run for so long which is why they decided to start in 76 and, once it became a hit, they had to decelerate the timeline to keep from running into the 80's.

Sometimes these kind of theories are interesting but then there's some like this where it's always a coma, a dream or some after life thing. Those scenarios could explain anything because what reality experienced in those states aren't real so anything could happen.

The real reason the timeline was so slow, and celebrated the same holiday multiple times a year, is because it's set in the same universe as M*A*S*H

And Screen Rant disappoints again. This isn't a DARK TRUTH if it's A THEORY. Three minutes wasted on a coma theory. One real mystery is how they missed graduation but in the next season, Eric gets a letter saying he couldn't graduated until he passes P.E

Why is everything from coma. Me personally, I would have said that the show is from their memories of the 70s which combined with constant drug use for so long might have made their memories of their teen years a bit jumbled up and inconsistent, you know like what happens in real life?
