This dilemma then follows;
Be Russian, have noticeable accent, have people make fun of you.
Be Russian, don't have detectable Russian accent, have people question if you're really Russian.
There is no in-between. Happens to other Slavic people too but imo less often. Can confirm, am Croat.

Actually 95% of non Slavic English users don't recognize difference between Russian, Polish, Serbian or any other Slavic accent.
