Lisa Mosconi, Ph.D.: "When we talk about risk factors for Alzheimer's, we're out looking for... Do you have high cholesterol? What's your insulin level? Do you have pre-diabetes? Do you smoke? But the number one risk factor for women is their hormonal health."

Mosconi, a neuroscientist and associate director of the Alzheimer's Prevention Clinic at Weill Cornell Medical College, joins Jason Wachob to discuss how cognitive decline differs between men and women, plus:

*Why being in a relationship can be good for your brain*

*The crucial connection between Alzheimer's and menopause*

*What she thinks about the Mediterranean diet*

*The healthiest way to drink coffee*

*Why you should get a brain health assessment in your forties*

This episode deserves so many more likes and views than it has received so far!

I’m concerned about the comment about not too much meat. Older women need much more protein- at least that’s what we are told. Meat is one of the best ways to get that protein, far more usable to our bodies than plant proteins. Help us clear the air, please.

Most doctors will not work with a patient unless they are already symptomatic! If we say that something is painful, or we are falling apart emotionally, then they will act and give care, refer us to specialists. How do we find ANY doctors who will help us early on? I am 70, and my doctors won’t help me unless I am in pain or crisis. I can’t spend an arm and a leg for a Dr who works outside the medical system, like Dr. Mosco ni or Dr Peter Attia. I need a physical trainer who will take my osteoporosis into consideration, but where is that knowledgeable person? Dr. Doug Lucas has such a person who works with him, but it costs thousands to get into her program. Help, please. The doctors you say we need are not out there in any abundance. They are needles in the haystack.

I’m very disappointed that this discussion didn’t get into the impact of patriarchal oppression on women.
Sure, you touched on how medical studies focus on male bodies and inappropriately apply the findings to women.
The fact remains that society places tremendous demands on women and continues to enable all sorts of abuses.
Women are more likely to be trauma survivors and are more likely to endure more frequent traumatic injuries. Add to this the stresses of not being believed…
Then we have to work more for less as well as all the unpaid labour at work and at home.
All of this does damage.
Yes, lifestyle improvements will help, but until we achieve real equity we will continue to be more at risk.
This MUST be part of the discussion.

Find a Dr who knows how to correctly interpret blood tests? I agree, but how do we find out who that is?

We are only talking about it now because women collectively have decided enough with medical misogyny.

I heard her on another podcast and loved what she was saying. I was really enjoying it then she lost me. She is speaking of gender fluidity. I'm sorry, but just because someone takes hormones to pretend to "transition" to the opposite gender, doesn't mean we should or that is has been proven to actually make it so. It's not possible!!! We really need to stop lying to these people and take their mental health issues seriously. She is very kind and I'm sure that she doesn't want to hurt the feelings of these folks, but good grief!

Shame she hadn’t read the work of Dr Chris Palmer😢there is plenty of science if you look hard enough.
