Create A Calming Bedtime Routine For Autism

Here are some steps you can take to create a calming bedtime routine:

Establish a regular bedtime: Try to establish a regular bedtime and stick to it as much as possible. This can help regulate your body's natural sleep-wake cycle.

Wind down before bed: Start winding down at least an hour before bedtime. This can include reading a book, listening to calming music, or taking a warm bath.

Create a relaxing environment: Make sure the bedroom is a calming and comfortable space. This can include dimming the lights, using soft blankets, and keeping the room at a comfortable temperature.

Avoid stimulating activities: Avoid activities that can be overstimulating before bedtime, such as playing video games or watching TV.

Use calming techniques: Teach your child calming techniques such as deep breathing or visualization exercises to help them relax and unwind.

Establish a bedtime routine: Create a consistent bedtime routine that your child can follow every night. This can include brushing teeth, changing into pajamas, and reading a bedtime story.

Use a visual schedule: Use a visual schedule or checklist to help your child understand the steps in the bedtime routine and feel more in control.

Remember that every individual with autism is unique and may have different needs and preferences. It's important to tailor the bedtime routine to your child's specific needs and work with them to create a routine that works best for them.

Fantastic video! I am generally in bed between 8:30 and 9 on most nights ... and I wake up at around 4:00 in the morning.

I go to bed at around 9:30 to 10 pm. If I’m feeling really restless, I’d read a book or listen to a sleep hypnosis recording on YouTube. Both help a lot

A tip I have learned, and it has helped a little bit, caffine has a half shelf life about 8 hours. So I make my last coffee at 3 pm at the latest at the moment with my goal eventually being, having my last coffee at 1:00 at the latest. Also, watch for hidden caffine, which is how I got caught out. Milo doesn't have caffine, but it does have chocolate, and chocolate has caffine in it. I always heat up a wheat bag on cold nights. I'm in New Zealand, and we are in winter. I also have salt lights which are light enough to reassure me of the dark, but not so bright, so don't keep me awake. I also have turned the brightness setting down on my t.v. Good luck everyone, we can do this!😂

I take medication for not dreaming. I fidget and jump on the bed and talk, and hurt myself as if I were possessed.

I currently have a good bedtime routine for my little AUs however my bedtime routine is horrible/nonexistent! I want/need someone who can do my bedtime routine for/with me just like I do for my kids 😩 I want someone to tell me it’s time to do this time to do that and read to me till my brain falls asleep 😓

I have the issue of how long I sleep. I only sleep for 6 hours, so going to bed too early ends up stuffing up my sleep!😳

My ADHD side overrules my autism side when it comes to routines. I rebel against routines.
