Walter Breuning was a man who lived to be 114 years old, from what I've read he ate two meals a day, breakfast, lunch, and fasted until breakfast the next day, probably a 6 to 8 hour window. In the morning he did light calisthenics and usually walked to a downtown restaurant. After eating he walked back and was known to walk a little extra taking a few laps around the hotel he stayed at. His diet seems to been the SAD, but his favorite meal was liver and onions which he had to celebrate his 114th birthday.

Lost 60lbs since oct. 2018 on IF and Keto. Currently on day 10 of water/saltwater fast. Fasting is awesome for breaking those stubborn plateaus.

Great video! I do OMAD I eat my meal at 3:30 or 4:00pm and I eat until I am satisfied I don't eat that many carbs it always is a fruit or small bread or 1 small corn tortilla and always 1/2 avocado with my meal . I walk 3 to 4 times a week so far lost 40 pounds in 8 months (slow weight lose) better than gaining. I love OMAD, don't have to stress about cooking food all the time. Thanks again.

I've been doing the 16/8 time restricted feasting since November and my life is much better now. I get up early already energized, I sleep better and throughout the day I'm with a better mood and surprisingly with more energy.

On the weekends I play 3 to 4 hours of basketball and I feel like im stronger/faster/less tired.

Fasting is good for the body which I can tell even in these 16/8 time windows. I only restricted the time not the kind of foods and still saw great results (lost 10 kg in less than 2 months).

I'm 29 and entered this diet because I gained 10kg after a vacation and a surgery (kidney) and was mad at my health and overall appearance.

Siim, I fasted for about 24 to 36 hours. But I felt slow afterwards and didn’t get much energy even after I had coffee.

Through experimentation - I found OMAD (22:2) with dry fasting gives me the optimum results. I give myself a two hour evening re-feed window. Upon awakening I have black coffee then I dry fast the entire day until re-feed. Once a week I do a complete 48 hour food fast with salt water only in my re-feed window, this food break puts me into deep ketosis state. It has taken me almost 14 months to get to this fasting lifestyle. A 36-48 hour dry fast is my method for autophagy. The benefits of a fasting focused lifestyle are too numerous to even list.

SIIM! You are awesome! May I ask, 2 questions? 1) If you are losing weight consistently on a diet, does that not mean you are experiencing some autophagy? 2) Do you think autophagy likely occurs if you tweak the 16/8 to maybe 18/6 or 20/4, and do moderate to high-intensity exercise while already > 12 hours fasted? I have noticed I only lose weight when I am doing high-intensity training at the end of my fasted interval.

If understood correctly: 18/6 fasting isn't enough for autophagy. It gets you closer, but not enough. So is the conclusion for one meal a day?

Oh nice. So cheat code is to workout while fasting to really jumpstart ketosis and even potentially reduce the time needed for fasting to still get the same outcomes.

I do a minum 16 hour fast 5 times a week. Often it's 18 and I try for the occassional 24. I am trying to do a 72 hour (3 day) fast for the immune system benefits but really struggling to get past 24/36 hours. It's psychological, not hunger. I am not supported by my family in this and there is always food around.

I do 16:8 for the Insulin sensitivity benefits. Autophagy would be a nice benefit. I spent most of my life until the last year basically as a vegan vegetarian and most people always said I looked 10 years younger. I am now 53 and it's catching me up a little but I still surprise people with my age. I am wondering if the plant based eating was responsible considering I also ate my fair share of unhealthy cards and consumed plenty of wine. I am skinny and very fit and active for my age. However it was only when I flipped the plant to meat ratio recently and cut out 90% of the fruit that I started to see other health benefits. More even energy levels, certain issues with skin and nail health and now I put on muscle from exercise.

I think sleep is a key factor. Sleep is to enable brain servicing.

One of the ways to increase muscle growth while weight training, is to change when and what kind of workout you do, so that your body doesn't get used to a routine. I wonder is IM isn't like that as well. I haven't done it on a regular basis, but sometimes I do 24 or more hours fasting, but starting at different times each fasting day, and fasting for different lengths of time. I may be wrong but I think I gain more doing it this way, then when I repeat the same meal and fasting times over and over. I would like to know what you think of this idea.

I swim 2-3 hours daily while fasting doing the 16/8 hopefully I can get a little autophogy but I am loosing inches

I always do a fast from 2:30 pm to 10:30 am the next day, and I'll get in two meals in a four hour span, and I either do keto diet or carnivore diet depending what I'm in the mood for. Thanks Siim for this great info.

of course you do, you are always in a state of autaphagy and it gradually increases to peak after 3 days. 16/8 every day usually goes with low carbs diets and low carb also improves autophagy and HGH.
