The Isle of Wight Festival is held in the UK and attracts over 600,000 spectators, surpassing Woodstock. Drugs claimed the lives of rock stars Jimi Hendrix and Janis Joplin. Simon and Garfunkel broke up and their album ``Bridge Over Troubled Water'' reached number one in the world. British band Black Sabbath releases their self-titled debut album, considered by many to be the first "heavy metal" album. The Jackson 5 have four US #1 singles.
