As Kirk goes to a dive bar to soak in the bad news delivered, Admiral Pike comes and talks to him. Great performance by Bruce Greenwood in showing what a great father figure he is to Kirk.

Man he nailed the dad role.

Interrupts his flirting, knows that he would be at a bar, teases his beating, and of course gives him hope and another chance.

Defends him in public, kicks his ass in private.

When you’re at your lowest, you need someone to pick you up, dust you off and tell you, “It’s gonna be okay, son.” Bruce Greenwood’s a great actor.

Pike was easily the best thing about both of these very good movies.

I loved Bruce Greenwood’s Pike. I wish they hadn’t killed the character. Bruce Greenwood is one of my favorite actors.

Father figure pretty much brought son figure to tears.  Greenwood knows how to own a scene.

Pike's conversations with Kirk in both movies are just fantastic.

"So what is it? Do you like being the only genius-level repeat offender in the midwest?"

"Your father was captain of a starship for 12 minutes. He saved 800 lives, including your mother's, and yours. I dare you to do better."

"It's gonna be ok son."
When he said that you should've known Pike wasn't gonna last much longer.

This scene ALWAYS makes me cry! The look in Kirk's eyes when Pike tells him that he is going to be his First Officer...*sniff sniff*

Good to know that Blues music is still appreciated in the future.

(2:13) *_"It's going to be okay, son."_** ~* That one line is far more powerful than most give it credit for...

1. *_Unconditional_** ~* For (Kelvin-timeline) Jim Kirk, who grew up without his father (George Kirk), to have Pike go this far for him (reinstatement), and for Pike to tell Kirk that Pike still believes in Kirk, despite Kirk having screwed up as badly as Kirk did, that is the mark of a true Father(-figure) from Pike.

2. *_Delivery_** ~* Both Bruce Greenwood and Chris Pine deliver this scene really well, with Greenwood delivering his line with such gravitas, and Pine's face visibly welling-up with emotion to show Kirk finding someone (Pike) who gives a damn about him (Kirk) even when having screwed up.

Thanks for uploading this, *Prometheus of Videos.* :)

This is pretty much perfectly acted. I think it's the best scene in the movie.

That drink, that ice ball, that music. I wanna visit that future scifi-bar so badly! :O

I really like the relationship between the two in these films. I kinda wish there had been something like that for Jeffrey Hunter and William Shatner's characters.

"That was an epic beating"
"No it wasn't"
"You had napkins hanging out of your nose..."
Honestly I'd wanna forget that fight too that was just embarrassing

"It's gonna be ok son" That hits me every time and reminds me of my own father. There when I need him to pick me up and dust me off.

The line was delivered so perfectly. Awesome acting from Bruce Greenwood.

I love the way Pike looks at Kirk when he sat down because he new he was interrupting, and the way Kirk reacts.

Bruce Greenwood is an excellent actor. For those of you who haven't seen it, you should watch Thirteen Days, in which he played President Kennedy during the Cuban Missile Crisis.

I don't know if he has ever been nominated for an Academy award, but he's definitely Oscar material.
