With the crippled Enterprise helplessly falling to Earth, Kirk sacrifices himself attempting to re-align the warp core while being exposed to heavy radiation. He succeeds as Sulu fires the thrusters on the Enterprise having it rise above the clouds, battered but alive.

Notice that the moment Scott says "you better come down here, sir", Spock's face immediately changes and he knows that Kirk saved them - at what cost? Awesome acting.

I love how Kirk cares so much about Scotty that he makes sure he has his seat belts ^^

I love how Kirk's solution to something being broke is to keep hitting it until it works.

And it WORKS.

The smile on Kirk's face when he realises he's done it. He's saved his crew

There is something so profoundly beautiful about watching Enterprise emerge from the clouds to that music. Gets me every time.

This is where he earns the right to be Captain of the Enterprise.

Not gonna lie, the blue-ish aesthetic of this film is freaking sweet.

i love this scene because it poses two important and very different scenarios:
1. kirk's realization is that he must sacrifice himself for the sake of the survival of everyone he loves and thousands more on the ground, hence that split second before he punches out scotty OR
2. kirk finally has an opportunity to be his dad and sacrifice himself for the sake of his crew.
one is all about love and one is all about ego. and yet i still don't know which one it is. that's why i love this scene so much.

It's.. it's CPR! Kirks is reviving the ship just like you would do with someone in cardiac arrest! It just shows how the Enterprise is a character like any other.
He saves her, bringing her heart back to life

Now that I think about it, Kirk saving the Enterprise might be the best thing that happened in the movie.

I should try Kirk's technique on my car when it's misaligned or loses power, lol.

The scene that shows you the ENTERPRISE name being ripped from the ship is just full of messages.

This is a wonderfully inspiring scene. Jim Kirk is probably my favorite fictional character. He is flawed like all of us, but loyal to those he loves and courageous in the face of overwhelming odds.

If you listen to the soundtrack for this scene, it has shades of when his father sacrificed himself in the first movie just after Kirk was born. Haunting and awesome.

Kirk was killed by Lensflare Radiation.  XD

Sulu says they'll be incinerated due to reentry, but by the time the warp core is restarted, they're already in the atmosphere.

Personally I like to think of this scene where Kirk truly earns the right to be Captain of the Enterprise. As he puts aside everything to save his crew, and friends. As well as in the following scene where Kirk admits he’s scared to die.
