“I’m scared, Spock…help me not be.”

That’s where I break. 😢

"How do you choose not to feel?"
"I don't know... because right now I am failing."
Really shows the dynamic between these two and shows that spock very much has a human mind in come cases.

"How's our ship?"  "... our ship..."  That's why I like this Kirk.

I know people give this scene shit for being an identical reflection of the scene in Wrath of Khan, but I honestly think this was the best scene in the movie....and definitely one of the most vital to both Kirk and Spock. For Spock, this scene is him finally being able to understand and accept why Kirk saved him at the beginning of the film. He is finally able to feel those emotions that he had tried so hard to suppress when his mother and Admiral Pike died and not only feel them, but understand WHY he felt them...because he cares about Jim. For Kirk, this is the moment when he truly understood what Pike meant by "respecting the chair". Up until this point, he had relied on blind luck and his own ego to get him through any crisis, but now he understands what it means to put his crew before his own life. He was willing to sacrifice himself to save the people who have essentially become his family and in doing so, he truly became worthy of the chair and his title as Captain of the Enterprise.

"How's 'our' ship?"

I absolutely love the dialogue in this part because it not only showed the references but also of how much Kirk and Spock actually care about each other. People keep saying how it's weird for Spock to yell "Khan" but in all actuality honestly it makes perfect sense. Kirk is one of the very very few people that Spock considers his friends and for Kirk to die it brought out the human side of him. After all his mom was a human and also he's had very human emotional episodes before like when his mother died and Vulcan was destroyed. Kirk has brought out his emotional human side before and that's why I think Spock became his human personality for awhile. I think that Kirk, since he's so emotionally human, that Spock needed to be the logic one, in a way they "completed" each other, so when Kirk died it was like a part of Spock died with him.
And also people are saying that William Shatner would never have said "I'm scared, Spock" when actually he said it in the original series. I've seen it I would know. Kirk knew he was dying, it doesn't take a genius to figure that out, so he confided in Spock, his best friend. And Spock was his friend because Spock said it himself.

“Because you are my friend.” I always lose it at that line.

1:32 I feel like people forget about this simple line. In the first movie those 2 argued about the test and Spock saying how the point is to fear Death and the inevitable. While Kirk talks about believing in a way out. But now the time has come and Kirk realizes it is a real thing.

Watch Kirk's hand. His fingers actually moved and formed the T'al. That killed me. It was beautiful.

Notice how Spock starts to really lose his composure and tear up when Kirk said “I’m scared, Spock.” Because he didn’t want his friend to feel fear when he died. That was the emotion that Spock was most afraid of in death: fear.

Spock's yell is much more stronger then Kirk's because think of all the loss he's suffered. He lost his mother, his home planet, and now he's lost his best friend. Kirk's Khan-yell had been in anger for willingly leaving his enemy buried alive, Spock's is mixed with grief and anger: making a much more dramatic yell.

The cheers from the audience in the theatre when Spock yelled out Khan's name are still echoing in my head after over a decade... what a moment for a Trekkie's heart

When he said, "I'm scared Spock. Help me not to be. How do you choose not to feel." It just breaks my heart.

Spock: It is what you would have done.
Kirk: And this is what you would have done...
In the opening scene of this movie, Kirk doesn't understand why Spock wouldn't allow him to save his life over the prime directive and Spock doesn't understand why Kirk can't simply do what's supposed to be done. What makes this scene so beautiful is how the two characters are shown building up to this point where Kirk acts on cold logic and Spock finally realizes exactly why that's not always the best thing to do, even though it may be right. It is amazing how these two characters finally understand what it's like to be the other person (or act like him).

The way Spock's breathing shifts from sadness to agony then immediately to PURE RAGE is astounding. Completely nailed his role.

3:31 Uhura's reaction is especially moving, because she didn't really respect Kirk up to this point. She mocked him openly in the first film and even sarcastically called him "Captain" at the films conclusion, and though she was addressing him formally by the time Into Darkness comes around, she's still not really on close terms with Kirk. It's only when she witnesses his death and realizes that he gave his life to save hers, to save the ship and its crew, does she truly gain admiration for Kirk and his selfless valor, putting the crews life before his own.

She has nothing but immense respect for him from this moment on, having finally proved himself truly worthy of the chair.

I think I like Spock's "KHAN!!" better than Kirk's "KHAN!!" Because with Kirk all I heard was anger. With Spock I hear not just anger, but sadness and regret, mixed emotions going through Spock that we rarely hear out of him and that's what makes this moment more special than the original in my opinion.

Seriously, why does the Academy ignore great performances like this??? I mean what does it take to get noticed - getting mauled by a bear??

this scene made me cry in the theaters, not a previous star trek fan, but the writers did great work on this one.
