iPhone Ear Speaker Not Working? Here's The Fix!

Two Apple experts explain what to do when your iPhone ear speaker is not working.

First, turn up the volume. It’s important to keep in mind that the earpiece speaker volume is set independently of the other volume on your iPhone. It can only be set while you’re making a phone call.

Next, remove your iPhone from its case and clean out the speakers and the microphones using an anti-static brush and a microfiber cloth.

If the ear speaker still isn’t working on your iPhone, head to the Accessibility section of the Settings app and turn off phone noise cancellation.

The last step you can take to rule out a software problem is to Reset All Settings, which will erase everything in your iPhone’s Settings app and restore it to factory defaults.

WHAT IN THE WORLD MAGIC IS THIS! Cleaning using a brush worked like a gem!

I can barely hear the other person in the line in my earpiece, around 3/10 and that’s max volume. After cleaning it with a brush, it’s now 10/10.

Thank youuu!!!

Thank you so much!! I thought the speaker was blown and and when I took video I couldn’t hear anything. I was getting ready to take my phone in. A few toothbrush strokes later and now I have surround sound watching videos again!! Thanks again guys!! ❤️❤️

Guys, you saved our lives! The ear speaker of my husband’s iPhone stopped working. We googled and found your YouTube. Used the toothbrush as your recommendation, the phone worked immediately.

LOL Turn up the volume while making a call. So simple. I was about to take it in to the repair shop who told me the ear piece needed to be replaced. Thanks guys! You saved me a few buck and some time.

Wow! I used a new toothbrush to clean out the area near the charging port and I can hear calls without using it on speaker. That saved me from having to have a new phone. Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge!!!

You absolutely boys! Saved a fortune with this little tip, couldn’t hear anyone for months and never even thought of a a quick clean with the toothbrush, good as new again 😂 same as the fluff in the charger port, so many what seem obvious fixes don’t even try, thanks for the tip! 🤝🏻

Thank you!!! It worked! I had to shut off the noise canceling setting off and I did clean it all out. I could barely hear people when I was on the phone! I would have to put it on speaker phone

Brilliant!!! I tried all the suggestions, the fix came when I took off my screen protector and used a toothbrush gently on the speaker at the top, I also cleaned out alot of lint on the bottom but the speaker started working when I cleaned the top.

Worked with the brush, however even better results with applying and removing a bit of poster putty on the front speaker. That really cleared out all the dirt!

Wow thank you! That worked great!. As a lot of people mentioned, it's brushing out the microphones that worked for me. In my case, the bottom of the phone had gotten very dusty from the case it was in and I could see the dust that was stuck in the holes. I couldn't even see the star shaped screws at the bottom, but after clearing all that stuff away my sounds came back. Thanks again!
