The Greeks Who Pray to Zeus: VICE INTL (Greece)

Even though Greece is a predominately Christian Orthodox country, there are some people in this country who still believe in the 12 Gods of mount Olympus, deriving from Greek Mythology. According to unofficial sources they amount to a couple of hundreds and present themselves as members of the unofficial so-called "Greek Religion". This is a mixture of beliefs that combine paganism, the idea of spiritual connection with nature and a kind of fixation to the Ancient Greek ideals. Over the past decades they have founded various different groups, the oldest and most popular among them being the "Greek Naionals High Commissioned Council (GNHCC) - Υπατο Συμβούλιο Ελλήνων Εθνικών," founded 30 years ago.

If you think your god is real, why can't they believe their god is real. None of you can't even prove he's real anyways so let them worship Zeus and his buddies.

"The fact that after almost 2, 000 years or so, in those places, the Hymn to Poseidon will be heard." - That was powerful.

Interesting fact: the Greek government recognised the Hellenic pantheon 7 years ago, April 9 of 2017

I'm Greek and I respect these people. Personally, I'm Orthodox Christian but I totally get these people. Sadly, many Greeks consider them 'trash'.

Atheists: The god you believe in, also happens to be the one your parents told you to believe in

Neo-Pagans: Hold my wine

I'm a Christian but I believe everyone has a right to their religion and to practice it. As long as you aren't killing people...

Apparently because the Greek Orthodox Church also rules the government, if you aren’t Christian you’re seen as an outsider in Greece. These people continuing centuries old traditions are putting themselves in a tough spot in society but it’s so beautiful

Hearing that sweet lady speak of speaking her hymn to Poseidon, in a sacred place where it hadn't spoken in around 2000 years, was very touching. I find what these people are doing here, to be very beautiful! It'd be lovely to see more people embrace the ways that were lost, forsaken and stolen from their/our ancestors.

beautiful, truly beautiful, especially when that lady almost cried and said that after 2, 000 years the hymn of Poseidon is still heard, it's great to see that greeks are still preserving the religions of their forefathers, nonetheless, whether it is orthodox or olympian , Greece is always fascinating

Ancient and native religions are always valid. Abrahamic religions are not the only ones in the world.

The Olympics started as a festival to honor Zeus, so Zeus Worship still happens today.

Hindus still worship their polytheist gods, yet no one says anything about that. Why is it a big deal when Europeans worship their Olympians?

Even though I am an atheist, and very much an anti-theist this brought a tear to my eye. I’ve always been extremely fascinated by Hellenism/Olympianism. The Gods and culture of Ancient Greece are so unbelievably interesting and intricate. The ceremony was beautiful; the chanting, the white dresses and the offerings. I’ve been studying the societies of Ancient Sparta & Athens and have been loving every bit of it.

I think this documentary mainly should’ve been focusing on their practices and beliefs rather than the politics about it. I also found the reporter to be quite disrespectful, especially towards the end.

I'm a Norse/Celtic pagan and I am very grateful that so many people are returning to the old ways. I respect the Olympians and hope more people follow soon!
