The BEST Plus Size Historical Costuming Patterns

For #CoSy2022, the Costube Symposium, I decided to do a review of my most used and best loved plus sized historical costuming sewing pattern companies. I consider these selections to be the best of the best as far as size range, availability, variety, and instructions. These pattern providers have 18th century, 19th century, and 20th century fashions as well as history bounding styles.

It was brought to my attention that Black Snail Patterns ship from Austria. I mistakenly said they shipped from Germany in the video. Apologies! ♥️

This is so great, thank you. And I say this every time but I LOVE your Augusta stays. I am going to work on a pair from the Redthreaded pattern soon but depending on how it goes I might try these too someday. Continuing to send you healing vibes. <3

Thank you Rebecca. You and I have almost identical body measurements. I find your videos inspiring and motivating. It may sound odd, but seeing people who look like me doing historical costuming also makes me feel safe? brave?... it makes me feel included in a community that brings me joy and happiness.

Wow! Your costume closet is really coming along! Lovely stuff. This was a very helpful video and I'm think I'll go peruse some patterns. 😄
I'm sorry to hear about your back and hope it's not serious. I also hope you're getting some relief. Maybe some massages too.

Great overview, thank you very much for the ratings!

But BlackSnail actually ships from AUSTRIA, not Germany ;)

Thank you for the video. This is really going to help me with pattern company and styles choices. Having the same measurements and watching your vids has certainly helped with wanting to make historical patterns suitably adjusted for wheelchair use.
The only issue I have with laughing moon is that the late victorian range seems to only go to a size 26. When their victorian undergarments patterns go way higher.
I agree with that the instructions are good with the 2 companies I've tried (LMM and Blacksnail) will have to try the other 2 you mentioned. I do like the look of the waistcoat/vest pattern from house of brick. Think I'm going to get that pattern next.
Keeping everything crossed that your back gets sorted soon.

I always enjoy review videos. It's nice to hear other peoples thoughts on products. Some of these companies patterns I've used, some I haven't. Like you I love a PDF pattern.

Hello Rebecca,

you and your channel just made me really happy.
My dream dress and that as a plus size pattern.
Day dress 1840-45 sewing pattern size EU 34-56 (US 8-30) from Blacksnail-patterns.
A similar one was worn by abolitionist and suffragette Clarina Nichols in a photo taken ca. 1848.
let me embrace you
Greetings from Germany

Now that I have been learning about historical garb for the last three years… I always laugh now when I see people wearing corsets, shifts & petticoats OUTSIDE and think to myself "He he You're outside in your underwear!"

But I loved seeing so many of your garments! They're so fun, elegant, and pretty!

Hello,
I am so happy to have found your channel.
I love historical dresses (middle of the 19th century) and so far I have mostly failed because the patterns are much too small for me. I myself am super plus size with extra length.
I left a subscription and also pressed the bell. I'm looking forward to your videos.
Greetings from Bavaria/Germany
