Do you have any gaps on your resume? Let me know if this video resonates with you!

I don't understand this whole concept. Why do employers care if you have gaps? Maybe I just had things I'd rather be doing and I could afford to survive until I started working again.

I honestly despise this question. Its honestly none of their damn business why I havent been working as long as i dont have a criminal record!

My whole life is a gap! I am changing specialties every few months and have finally kept focus on a few, getting them to a higher level.
I used to think that it's all going to waste until I find the way to settle down... but I found out it was all useful to be integrated into one job that can make use of all these skills!

I worked for 2 years. Then i quit to further my study fulltime. Then after i graduate, i was unemployed for 16 months. Then i got a job, but not for long. I quit after 4 months. Now i've been unemployed for 7 month and i got an interview tomorrow.

I just recently ran into a recruiter who wouldn't let the fact go that I was unemployed for nearly 3 years after I told him that I was taking care of a family member and attended some classes at local college. Pissed me off than he lies and says he would email me the job description and never did than told me to take care and I told him to take care.

I was sick for years, working with natural doctors to heal from heavy metal poisoning, etc. Then I was working on repairing my life, etc. I have been off work for 6.5 years but I'm physically ready to get back to work. I probably need to take some classes to refresh my skills to get employed in my field, but I'm hoping I can work another job while I do that. I don't even know how to get started anymore!

Crazy how distrusting, judgmental, nosy, discriminatory, employers and society have become. One funny thing about all this is, if we don't remember our work history dates its near impossible for us to get them. Yet employers can get them them with ease. We the people cant get the presidents tax returns, but any employer can dig into our taxes, finances, and credit reports, using them for their discriminatory garbage.

how about stop asking about the gap and just hire said person for their skill?

Really employers have a hint as to why there are gaps (discrimination), so they do not usually ask this too often as they probably have done the same to other employees and fell queasy about revisiting the past. Discrimination about salary, age, personal reasons. So yes many people have gaps and it is not their fault.

Situation #2 resonates with me. After 20 years of being with a company, I had to do an early retirement to care for family. After 4.5 years of not working, I am beginning the process of networking at my former company. I plan to use the information about volunteering for non-profits and schools as the focus. Thanks for the great video!

I hate how often you explain a gap but then they just want more and more information on the gap

What if you just took a sabbatical to care for self and family members.

This video makes me feel a lot better about myself. I’ve been unemployed for over a month, with some renovation work here and there. I’ve been working ever since I was 14 and I just wanted some time off to hang out with my friends and enjoy life. But when I went looking for a job, all my potential employers kinda looked down on me because I haven’t been formally employed for almost 2 months

In my experience gaps in employment aren’t a bad thing it all. Everyone has them to pursue a degree or just wanting to take some time off. Etc.

We have to get rid of the idea that gaps in employment makes you not able to get work.

I'm 24 and been unemployed for years. I got my first job at a clothing store last October and left in late January when my seasonal position expired. After that I've been unemployed. I've been looking for a job, I almost got hired at Amazon last month but I never received my confirmation email even though they had told me my background and drug test met their requirements. I was going to be hired at UPS a few days after but my dad wouldn't let me go through with it because his friends said UPS was too hard work and I'm a female. He didn't think I was strong enough to work there so I withdrew my application even after I interviewed and was offered to take the warehouse tour. I'm pretty stressed out. UPS might not had been right fir me but at least I would be employed by now.

I think it's really great that you have covered this gap in work history concept. I really appreciate the time and effort you and your team invest in these videos. I am wondering if you would consider posting one for gaps in work history based on those who just chose not to work for awhile. There are many reasons people have gaps, but making a decision not to work is one of them. Sometimes people just plainly do not want to work for a period of time. They enjoy not working. I do understand that it is a blessing, but that is not the point I am trying to convey. Some people do have the ability to Not work and then decide to go back to work after a long period of time out of an unexpected necessity or just because they just want to work again. This is a true life situation for many people that is never addressed in returning to the job market. I would love to see this reason covered on some YouTube channels. I have searched for someone who has covered this concept and have found none. It would be very helpful for those of us who want to get back to work if some good advise on cover letters, resumes, and interviews were covered for those who just wanted to stay home for awhile. People should not be judged for long gaps in their work history. It is a personal decision, a perogative that we all have, if we chose to make it a choice. I have watched some of your videos and thought that you would be able to give great advise for this concept. I really enjoy your advise and appreciate your time and effort in providing it.
